WORLD’S GREATEST COLT.

Peter Volo is the greatest colt ever foaled (writes an American writer). He gave an inkling that it was coming in his work out at Grand Rapids and the week later in his victory at Kalamazoo. At Columbus he lowered the record for his age to 2.6% and at Lexington he brought it down to 2.4%, so that he now has the fastest mark of any two or three-year-old ever foaled, trotting or pacing. Much has been said of this colt because of his extreme size and his great strength. In fact, there have been some rumours that he is more than a two-year-old, bait none of these ever can be substantiated, the state ment of the breeder and superintendent standing as a fact that is indisputable. The general performances of the

colt have added to the lustre of Michigan-bred sire, Peter the Great,

and have been further proof that this horse'f'does , not need fashionably-bred mares to get good trotters. The dam of Peter Volo was a pacer by the man-eating pacing stallion Nervolo, which was a game and tough race horse. Peter the Great has sired many good trotters through mating with pacing mares, and it has ’ the pedigree compilers a merry chase to make their blood strains stand --

as though they amounted to some thing.

The credit must go to the stallion, undoubtedly the cest of them all. His colts hit a trot early and they trot fast. Some have said they will not race on, but Sadie Mac disproved that and Judson Girl was a pretty good trotter this year.
