A TURN IN LUCK.

Though the bearers of the “Highden” colours were racing at three meetings—Auckland, Feilding, and Christchurch —during the Easter holidays, not one victory was secured by the crack Awapuni representatives. At the Auckland gathering Boanerges was started twice—in the Easter Handicap and Huia Handicap respectively —but on each occasion he finished outside of a place. His prominent running in the Easter Handicap was

responsible for him being made a warm favourite in the Huia Handicap, in which he finished fifth. Makara represented the “Highden” stable at Feilding, where he ran two thirds in the Mangaone Stakes and Denbigh Stakes respectively, in both of which events he was a strong favourite. At the Canterbury J.C. meeting the crack “Highden” two-year-old Ermengarde let his supporters down badly in the Champagne Stakes and the Twentieth Challenge Stakes, while the three-year-old filly Bronze failed to run prominently in the Great Easter Handicap and the Great Autumn Handicap. Another heavily supported “Highden” representative at the C.J-C. meeting in Blakeney ran second to Mira in the Autumn Plate, but on the second day failed to gain a place in the Yaldhurst Welter Handicap.
