WANGANUI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

WANGANUI, August 8.

The annual spring meeting of the Rangitikei Racing Club will be held on the 14 th and 15 th September. The chief events on the opening day, are the Rangitikei Steeplechase of 150 sovs., the Gorton Memorial Handicap of lOOsovs., being the principal flat event. On the second day, the Clifton Steeplechase (120sovs.), and the September Handicap, flat (900sovs-), are the two chief events. Nominations close on Friday, the 19th inst., with Mr. H. A. Goodall, secretary. Owners and trainers are reminded that entries for the Wanganui Guineas of 1911 (at the spring meeting) and the Jackson Stakes, 1912 (Autumn meeting) are due on Friday, September 2, with Mr. Wm. Hall, secretary. ’Frisco has gone wrong, and will

be put to the stud .for the season. The nominations received ? for the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club meeting to be held on the 25th August are exceptionally good, arid soirie capital sport should be provided. Amongst those engaged in the Hack Hurdles are Whimper, Sardonyx, Posegrove, and Waxy, while Auratus, Twinkle, and Taupo figure amongst the 25 engaged in the Hunters’ Hurdles. A very fair lot are listed in the hack flat events, while the steeplechases have filled very well, those entered including such good ones as Rapanui, Glenmore, Carn, Auratus, and others. W. Raynor expects to have Grandee the full brother to Vi sent to him shortly. Grandee was recently purchased on behalf of Mr. R. Narelle (owner of Shannon Lass), and is a most promising looking three-year-old, and is expected to be hard to master when the time arrives for him to carry satin. I understand that Fred Tilley is to leave for Sydney on September Ist, with Lady Lucy, Milan, Equitas and Master Laddo. There was some doubt as to whether the trip would be decided upon, but as the weights are considered satisfactory and the horses are going on well, they are to be given a chance to distinguish themselves at Randwick and at Flemington.
