WANGANUI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, July 25. Alex. Hall is suffering from a rather severe attack of sciatica, and in the meantime his team is being looked after by Jimmy Peachey. St. Bill and Beacon, are both looking remarkably well, and should be at their very best early in the coming season. They have not done much jumping recently, the weather having been against schooling, while they both have shown such aptitude for hurdling that they will only require to be fit to perform well.

Waxy did not do any good at Trentham, although he was very well when he left here. It is evident that he has nothing like the brilliancy of his brother (Leaman), but maybe he will do better to put over the small sticks. Eastwind also disappointed his connections after the good form he had shown here before leaving. The Euroclydon colt in Hall’s stable is making good progress, and may be expected to.be in capital trim for the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club meeting, at which he will be a starter in the hack flat events.

Jack Stewart had the mount on Waione when he scored on Saturday, and he is credited with showing all the dash he exhibited a few years ago, when he was noted as one of the finest cross country riders in the Dominion.

The N.Z. Cup candidate St. Lumsden ran a decent race on Saturday, when he finished second to Inchbonny. The son of St. Paul was greatly fancied for this event, but was beaten half a length. It is reported that Milan has been backed by her party for the Melbourne Cup, which makes it look as if she win go to Australia, and Lady Lucy be kept in the Dominion for the N.Z. Cup. The Euroclydon colt in A. Hall’s stable is making capital progress, and may be expected to be very fit for the Egmont Wanganui Hunt Club meeting, at which he will be a starter in the hack events.

Kremlin’s run in the Corunna Hurdles on Saturday came as a surprise, as he was thought to be a back number. He beat some fairly good horses and got home easily, so it is quite on the cards he will be heard of again shortly. Alex. Hall owned the Stepniak gelding for some time, but finally gave him away to Mr. R. Webb, custodian of the Wanganui racecourse, who sold him to an Auckland sport very cheaply, with the proviso, I understand, that he was to receive £25 out of the first winValentine was made very hot for the Kai Ora Handicap on Saturday, but could only get second, thus saving the local bookies a considerable sum.
