WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB’S MEETING.

FIRST HAY. The autumn meeting of the Wairarapa Racing Club opened on Saturday at the Tauherenikau course. The weather was fine, and the attendance larger than at last year’s meeting. The sum of £5422 was put through the totalisator, as against £5148 for the first day of last year. Ten bookmakers plied their calling. The results were as follows:—

MAIDEN HACK RACE of 60sovs, six furlongs.—Miss Peaty 1, Leapuki 2, Stepalong 3. Also started: Dixie Girl and Field Fare. Won by a length. Time, lm. 18%s.

EASTER HANDICAP of 200sovs, one mile and a distance.—Lethean, 7.11, 1; Truganini, 2; Hilarian. 3. Also started: Mataari, Merrie Rose, Aberration, and Skye. A good race. Won by three-quar-ters of a length, with a head between the second and third horses. Time, lm. 56 3-ss.

TE WAKA HACK WELTER of 75sovs. seven 1. Merrie Land 2, Merrie Emerald 3. Also started:

Happy New Yea, Campaign, Kalypso. Won comfortably by four lengths. Time, lm. 29. 4-ss. ' ' ’ ' WANGAIMO'ANA HANDICAP of 85 sovs, seven furlongs.—Marengo 1, Aboriginal 2, Kelso 3. Also started: Curator, Bally Shannon, Waiwareware, and Splash. Won by two lengths, with the same distance between second and third horses. Time, lm. 29 4-ss. NURSERY HANDICAP of 75sovs, four furlongs (for two-yearolds).—British Maid 1, Killaloo 2, Inspection 3. Also started: Longwood, Longstep, Merry Widow, Royal Knight. A good race, there being only a length between the first and second horses, and half-a-length between the second and third. Time, 495. WARDELL HANDICAP of 115sovs, six furlongs.—Advantage 1, Te Roti 2, Sunbonnet 3. Also started: Full Rate, Liza, and Overtime. Advantage led in the straight, and won by a length, there being a head between second and third horses. Time, lm. 15s. MAHAKI HACK HANDICAP of 70sovs, five furlongs.—Palestine 1, Prancer 2, Leahora 3. Also started: Magneto, Merrie Land, Bow Bells, Aimwell, Fifi and Fighting Maid. Won by a neck, the third horse being close up. Time, lm, 2 3-ss.

SECOND DAY.

The Wairarapa Racing Club brought its autumn meeting to a close on Monday in showery weather. This, no doubt, considerably Interfered with the attendance. The starting again left room for improvement. Ten bookmakers were licensed. During the day the sum of £5578 was put through the totalisators, making a total of £ll,OOO for the meeting, against £11,553 for the corresponding meeting last year. Results:— ROTOTANIA HANDICAP of 115sovs, six furlongs.—Overtime 1, Splash 2, Liza 3. Also started: Advantage, Te Roti, Curator. Won by a length. Time, lm. 15 4-ss. MOROA HACK HANDICAP of 70sovs, six furlongs.—Magneto 1, Leahora 2, Merrie England 3. Also started: Succession, Merrie Land, Prancer, Te Utuata, Campaign, Kalypso. Succession and Prancer were left at the post. Merrie Land led into the straight, where Leahora and Magneto made a great run, the latter just beating Leahora by a head. Time, lm. 17% s. TAUHERENIKAU SHORTS HANDICAP of 70sovs; for three-year-olds; weight, 9st; five furlongs.—Merrie Goer 1, Maykoff 2, Bernardine 3. Also started: Portcullis, Black Reef, Grand Jewel, Leapuki. Won by two lengths. Time, lm. 5 l-3s. AUTUMN HANDICAP of 150sovs, one mile.—Aboriginal, 6.13, 1; Skye, 6.7, 2; Merrie Rose, 7.10, 3.
