The weather was dull on Saturday and the light bad, but the small amount of rain which fell had not impaired the wicket. North Shore met Eden Colts and winning the toss, remained in possession of the wickets all the afternoon, putting together the fine total of 283. Dacre got 74, Philson 60, Hadden 42, and Prime 39- As Eden Colts have lost the services of Relf they have little chance of saving the game. * * * * City met Eden A- and with the prospect of an almost certain defeat staring them in the face, several of City’s eleven were absent, and the game was somewhat of a farce. Eight batted, the total being 54. Eden A. put together 121 for two wickets, so have the game in hand. Cummings made 48 not out and Brown a similar total- * * s*: * The match between University and Grafton is in an interesting stage. The Collegians put together 144, Robinson getting 54. Fawcett 32, and Ellis 22. Grafton have one wicket down for 28. * * * * There was some very poor batting in the Ponsonby v- Parnell match. Parnell, batting one short, were all out for the poor total of 122, towards which Sale contributed 45 and A. Fairburn 21. Ponsonby’s batting was much worse, six wickets falling for 21, Hutchings taking four for six. * * * * JUNIOR MATCHES. Eden A. made 175 (Williams 78) against Parnell A.’s 10 for 2 wickets. Grafton put together 142 (Horspool 73), only nine batting. North Shore B. lost 6 wickets for 68North Shore A. made 175 to Parnell B.’s 80 (batting two short).

At Wellington on Saturday Gas Com pany beat Old Boys on the first innings- Gas Company’s first innings yielded 212, and Old Boys replied with

82 and 115 for seven wickets (Birch 26, J. P. Blacklock 18) respectively. Newtown registered a four-point win against Waiwetu. Newtown’s first innings reached 163, and the second 107 (Schmoll 36, Carruthers 22 not out). Waiwetu in their first innings made 113, and in their second 98 (Rogers 28, Judd 27). Midland had a fourpoint win against Phoenix- Phoenix in their first innings compiled 96, and 123 in their second (Berensen 37, Addinwood 45 not out). Midland’s first innings realised 125, and their second 97 for six wickets (Wynyard 24, Manson 33).

* * * * The Old Boys eleven has won the Wellington championship this year.

At Christchurch in the match Riccarton v. West Christchurch, the former won by an innings and 38 runs, their opponents only scoring 221 in two innings. For the losers, Chrystall (41) and Donnelly (40) were the highest scorers. In the match St- Albans V. Sydenham, Sydenham won after a fairly even game. Sydenham made 233 (Patrick 50, McClelland 44), and St. Albans 175. Linwood 322 (Lawrence 84, A. E. Ridley 50, A- E. Young 47, A. W. Thomas 46) beat East Christchurch 180 (A. Costello 41). The Linwood team has won the Christchurch championship this year.

Over one hundred centuries 'have been compiled in the grade competitions and other matches under the auspices of the New South Wales Cricket Association for 1908-9.

The M-C.C. sent a team on February 19 for a three weeks’ tour in Egypt, to play matches at Port Said, Cairo, and Alexandria.

There are four left-hand batsmen — V. Ransford, W. Bardsley, J. A. O’Connor, and W. Carkeek —in the Australian team. And there are three lefthand bowlers —C- C. Macartney, W- J. Whitty and V. Ransford.

Next season an Australian team is to visit New Zealand. Why not a New Zealand team visit Australia (asks the “Referee”), it being ten years since the pioneers came along?
