AS OTHERS SEE US.
I hear (writes “Prodigal” of the Sydney “ Referee ”) that the N.Z- Football Association (Soccer) has seceded from the N.Z-. Sports Federation. If this be so then three powerful bodies have left —N.Z. Rugby Union, N.ZLawn Tennis Association, and N.Z. Football Associat’on- The Federation will, in my opinion, collapse like a pricked bladder when the sportsmen of the Dominion seriously consider the Federation’s decision in the case of Southland Caledonian Society v. N-Z. Athletic Union. Things appear to have come to a pretty pass in the cricket world when certain members of the Southland Caledonian Society are debarred from playing in an inter-pro-vincial cricket match, not because they are not good citizens or respectable people, but because of some dispute between the Society and the Athletic Union. Personally I view the Federation’s decision to bar out members of the Caledonian Society from participating in various branches of sport as something absolutely indefensible. in fact, outrageous. I counsel the Southland Caledonian Society to stand as firm as a rock, for the New Zealand public and Press will assuredly take a hand on their side when the seriousness of the case becomes fully realised. That the N-Z. Cricket. Council should support the Federation in its attitude in this particular case astounds me-
