FOOTBALL.

THE NEW ZEALANDERS’ RECORD IN ENGLAND. The following is the full list of matches played -by the New Zealand team in England: —

Played, 35 matches; won, 19; lost, 14; drawn, 2. Scored 414 points (72 goals 90 tries) to 294 points (39 goals 70 tries).

The cable brings word of another victory for the New Zealanders in England. St. Helens was met on Saturday and defeated by 3 goals 5 tries (21 points) to 2 goals 2 tries (10 points). From this it would appear that our boys had puked themselves together, and at the very close of the tour were showing their true form.

A cable states that on Saturday a terrific hailstorm in England stopped hundreds of football matches, three grandstands being unroofed.

The English team for New Zealand sails in the Athenic on April 2, coming out by way of the Cape.

The Rugby football match England v. Ireland was played on February 8, and resulted in the defeat of the Irish team. The scores were: England, 2 goals and a try; Ireland, a penalty goal.

Some little difficulty is being found in allotting the dates of the Sydney University v. New Zealand Universities matches to be played here in July (says the Sydney “ Referee.”) The S.U.R.F.C. requires two Saturdays, and already provision is made for one by giving the club a bye in the competition. No doubt the M.R.U. will meet the club in the matter, as it is in the interests of the game. The New South Wales Union has given its sanction to the matches.

The Welsh Rugby Union has written to the New South Wales Rugby Union offering a hearty welcome to the team to Wa es, and asking that the number of matches on the programme in Wales be extended to the number played by New Zealand ■'and South Africa.
