THE AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB’S AUTUMN MEETING.

THIRD DAY. The Autumn Meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club was brought to a conclusion on Saturday last, at Alexandra Park. The weather proving perfect a large number of spectators found their way to the convincing ground, and these were rewarded by witnessing some excellent sport. Mr C. F. Mark, the secretary, had made adequate provision for everything, and he and his committee worked hard to ensure success being rewarded, by seeing everything pass off very smoothly. During the afternoon the sum of. was invested on the totalisator, this making the total for the meeting as against for the corresponding fixture last year. The first item on the afternoon’s programme was the Trial Handicap Trot, 11 miles. Of the nine starters Rutland was made a strong favourite, but the best he could do was to get fourth. The race was a good one throughout, there never being much to choose between Janitor and Harold Huon, and they came home in that order with eight yards between them. Tuxton being an indifferent third. Of the quintette in the Campbell Trot, 2 miles, Young ■ McKinney was a strong favourite. Sir Robert, on the limit, made a strong pace throughout. Waitekauri drew up to him at the back, but could not hold the son of Rothschild, who won all out by a dozen yards, while Duke C, who finished in great style, was only three yards further away. Five sported silk in the Park Handicap, 6J furlongs, Storyteller being made a very warm favourite. The outsider Ruatamata, acted as pilot from the outset, and drawing away all the time, won easily by four lengths from Octoroon, who beat Manapouri by half-a-length. A nice field of fourteen turned out for the Innovation Trot, i| miles. Agnes B. being a strong fancy with punters. Wilhelmina was soon out in front, but owing to a break let lago up. The grey mare soon settled down to it, however, and holding off the opposition, won by fifteen yards from Agnes 8., with lago thirty yards further back. Plenty of money was forthcoming in the High-Class Trot, one mile. Princess Ena, Specialist, and Robex carrying most money. Robex taking advantage of his start let out to make matters very willing, and so well did he trot that as the home stretch was entered he was well in front. Specialist, going in grand style, gathered him in up the straight, but could not quite reach the Rothschild gelding, who won by ten yards, with Princess Ena, who finished very fast, a similar distance behind the scratch horse. Seven ran in the Barn Handicap, 5 furlongs, Waihou, Ruatamata, Octoroon, and Glenora all being heavily backed. Dr. Quest cut out the running, but as the straight was reached Octoroon and Waihou joined issue. Octoroon finished gamely and won by two lengths from Ruatamata, who was brought too late, with Waihou a close third. The final event, the Farewell Trot, one mile, was contested by a capital field. Polly 11. was an easy favourite, and she won, but not till after a desperate battle with Silver Girl, who was only defeated by two yards, with Specialist coming fast thirty yards off third.
