Emile Bouhours, the old-time French champion, who flashed a surprise on his friends last month by successfully essaying Bauge’s long-standing 100-kilometre and 10-mile road records. Paced by Raoul le Boucher, the young French wrester, who piloted a 35 h.p. car, Bouhours covered the first-named d?‘stance in Ihr 37min 53sec (previous best Ihr 48min 51sec) and the 100 miles in 2hr 45min 30sec (previous best, 3hr 7min). The road chosen was between Orleans and Nierzon.
Max Schifler returned to. Berlin, after touring round the world by bicycle (says a telegram from Berlin). He started in 1898, and cycled through Germany, Ho land, England, Scotland, Ireland, the United States, Japan, eastern, provinces of China, Australia, India, Pers’a, Asia Minor, the Balkan States, and Austria homewards. The d’stance travelled was 44,000 English miles, during which Schiffler used up six bicycles. One of these was presented to him in Ind’a by Lord Curzon. Schiffler, who took 5000 photographs, says he will start on a second tour in February, covering Denmark, Scandinavia, England, the Southern American countries, Manchur’a, S beria, and Russia homewards. He expects to return to Berlin in 1912.
