New Plymouth, March 2C. The annual registered meeting at Alanaia was held on the 22nd in fine weather. The attendance was fair. St. Bill wort the Flying by a length from Matama, with Firelight, who carried 81b over, third. The books quoted St. Bill at 2to 1 on. Kingswood, the Gipsy King—Puriri mare gelding, trained by J. McCracken, easily won the Hurdles from his two opponents. 2 to 1 on was the offer about the winner. The Sylvia Park—Durus mare, Paroriki, won the Maiden, Blue Lake second, and Amoret (late Gold Top) third. 2 to 1 was quoted about the winner. Pardon was made a great pot for the Manaia Handicap. Jenkins was brought up specially to ride the Westmere gelding, who went out a 3 to I on favourite. lie was never in the hunt, and finished third in a field of three. Southern} Cross hopped off and was never headed, beating Immolation by over a length for first place. The winner was ciuoted at 3 to- 1 against. Mr George Gibson, once a well-known trainer and owner at Hawera, won the Farmers’ Plate with Tambourine (by Tambour —Novelty). Evens was the price. Signora won the Kaupokonui Handicap from the favourite, Confide. 2to 1 was laid against the St. Cyr marc. Firelight annexed the Welter from Pardon. 4 to 1 was laid against Firelight. Mr C. Lusher, the secretary, and the stewards worked well to carry out the fixture. Mr J. George, the New Plymouth framer, will leave with his team for Auckland next week. Mr C. E. Major talks of retiring from the ranks of owners owing to his persistent- bad luck. The new owners of Manionoto are squealing about the imposts being dealt out to the horse.
