LACROSSE
The season was opened by the New Zealand Lacrosse Association on Saturday with a tournament, in which four teams took part. In the opening rounds Grafton beat Suburbs by five goals to three, while Ponsonby defeated Shamrock by one goal to nil. * * * * The final gave rise to a capital game, Ponsonby ultimately achieving the victory by two goals to on. Wallace and Latta scored for the winners and Walton for Grafton. I am afraid the game of lacrosse has not made the progress in Auckland that was hoped for. The chief stumbling block was the absence of any outside competition, tne same teams opposing •each other time after time. This season the district scheme has been abandoned, but it is difficult to see how this is going to help matters. It will be a great pity if the game is allowed to go down hill, because beyond question it is a very pretty; one to watch, and moreover requires more science to play it than the other winter pastimes, such as football or hockey.
