WANGANUI
LOCAL HORSES—TURF GOSSIP. > October 29. Strene has been tried over the small sticks, and shaped fairly well. I have not seen Capture on the track recently, and it is reported he is in physic. Good solid work is being done by Kilkenny on the track, and useful work by War Medal, Perfection, and Artisan. Bristol’s horses in work are doing well. Madman especially is going in good style. Another horse that is improving is Waiwera, who went twice round during the week, going very freely. Mr O’Driscoll’s old champion, Voltigeur, has again changed hands for the small sum of £lO, but I cannot fancy his new owner expecting him to race again. Famous is still being kept going, and is doing well, also Queen’s Guard, who should do well at Waverley, in fact I look to him or Mazona to win the principal race at that meeting. Other Wanganui horses engaged at the above meeting are all training on satisfactorily. After the acceptances are in it will be time enough to make selections. Record Reign’s scratching for the New Zealand Cup came as a great surprise to his numerous backers here, as he had been backed very extensively in this district for the Cup.
