HAWKE’S BAY.

MR GEORGE RICHARDSON’S TEAM-LITTLE BILLEE—DONOVAN—NAPIERISPORTB FOR RICCARTON—SWIMMING. October 30th. Mr George Richardson has strengthened his team in training by the addition of Hiamoa and the four-year-old Seaton Delaval—Lady Leger gelding. The former is a sweet ladylike filly, a full sister to Somnolent and Rangiatea, showing heaps of quality. Her owner has had her up before, but owing to some slight leg trouble she has been enjoying a rest. She looks all serene now. The gelding is a big chap with plenty of power and freedom, and as he has had every chance given him should certainly develope into a good useful sort. His half-brother, Philanthropist, is a rare constitutioned horse, and judging by appearance this relative of his has been endowed by nature equally as welt Besides this brace the registered owner of the blue and orange livery has just had brought in a trio of rising three-year-olds. The detachment consists of a chestnut filly by Robinson. Crusoe, from Princess Royal, a blood-like prepossessing damsel with all the necessary qualifications that are eon- ; sidered essential for a galloper of the first grade ; a bay gelding by Drury Lane, from Wairareka, has got tons of good points, and not a bad one about him. He is a great deal like, his sire in colour and appearance, and should he take after him as regards the possession of pace there is no reason to doubt, only he should not; judging by his outline he will prove t OO - 1 property to control. The remaining member of the contingent is a rather under-sized brown son of Drury Lane and Queensborough, who does not compare favourably when criticised through his companions. An allowance must be made for him, however, as he met with an accident when in his infancy, and this has naturally had the effect of retarding his growth Still with the careful attention that he is bound to receive in his new quarters he may in time improve. Another of the orange and blue bearers, Bush Rose, has been eased off, and is now enjoying himself in the paddock. The other active members of the string, Murmur, Robin Gray, Robin Adair, Crown Prince and Norine, look well and hearty, and give ample proof that they have been well looked after. Murmur and Robin Adair have been nominated for several events at the Tara-tahi-Carterton gathering next month. Little Billee has been taken out of work, and yesterday morning Waterfall’s son was sent to Waipukurau, where he will be hacked about for a few months. Whitirea, Prattle, Wilson, Pinepinetekura, Evening Wonder, and a two-year-old gelding by Renata from Virginia, arrived by the Moura from Gisborne yesterday morning. The two latter have been purchased by Mr D. Thompson, of Hastings, and go into D Wright’sjtraining establishment.

Donovan, in charge of D. Wright, left for Lyttelton by the Moura yesterday. The whitefaced son of The Dauphin claims engagements at Riccarton this week.

The following additional foalings have taken plaee at Karamu during the past week: Bequest, a filly to Spinfeldt; Guitar, The Shrew, Anadomena, Miss Never, Lullaby, Oriflanure, Gabble, Eon, fillies to The Officer; Lyre, Trentalto, Sabra and Arethusa, colts to the same sire. Mr McVay, one of the leading members of the Napier Park Racing Club, leaves on Thursday for Riccarton, where he will assist at the New Zealand Cup fixture. Several other local sports intendgbeing present at the Meeting. Very little betting was indulged in here over the Gisborne Meeting. No doubt the £5 limit fixed by the starting price merchants had something to do with the lack of interest taken in the gathering by punters. The Napier Swimming Club held a general meeting at the Masonic Hotel last night, Mr Eagleton in the chair. In reference to -correspondence from the Proprietor of the White Swan Baths, stating the terms on which the baths would be available for Club members. It was decided to accept the terms offered. It was arranged that three sports’ meetings should be held this season, including one championship meeting. The secretary was instructed to forward to Mr Scott, Waipukurau, a letter of condolence on the death of his son, the late Trooper Scott, who was a prominent member of the Club. The following rew members were elected: Messrs G. R. Colterill, G. Foreman, R. Oliphant, R. McLernon and G. C. F. Eager.
