Lacrosse.

[_By Covekpoint.]

The prospects of a prosperous season seem very bright at present, and I have no doubt that this great Canadian pastime will obtain a very substantial footing here before very long. The Association have seen ed three grounds for matches in the Domain Cricket enclosure. With six district clubs going it is expected that the general public will give this sport the patronage it deserves. The Association held its annual meeting on the 10th inst., there was a large attendance. Dr. King occupied the chair and the general business

was got through successfully. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: — Patron: His Excellency the Governor, Lord Ranfurly; president : Mr D. Goldie (Mayor) ; vice-presidents : Drs. King and T. A. Purchas, A, Kohn, J B. Macfarlane, S. T. George, J. K. Witheford, Rev Beatty, Dr. Egan, A. Heath.'-: A. M. Myers, W. R. Wilson, Thos. Morrin, D:_ Bedford, E. Broughton, and G. A. Pearson ; secretary: H. Howey Walker; treasurer: W. Noton; consuls : E. Broughton (Canterbury) and A. C. Major (Wairarapa). It was decided unanimously that six district clubs should be formed, namely, Pa’nell, Grafton, North Shore, Ponsonby, Subucbs, and Grey Lynn, with the same territorial limits as the Rugby Union has, with one exception, there being no city club, half of which goes to Parnell and Grey Lynn. The new rules were read and agreed to. Members in the different districts were asked to convene meetings and form clubs. it is is expected that practice will be started next Saturday week. A Referees Association is in the course of formation.

A large supply of crosses will arrive here in a few days. Intending players should give their names in to the secretary of the club in the district they reside in as early as possible. Messrs A C. Major (Wairarapa) and Eric Broughton (Canterbury) are in hopes of starting Lacrosse in their respective provinces very soon, both are very keen enthusiasts, and I hope their efforts will be crowned with success.
