MELBOURNE C.C. v. WELLINGTON. Wellington never recovered their bad start, and in their second innings made 66, one more than the first innings score. The Melbourne men therefore, won the match by an innings and 299 runs. Trumble and Cave bowled without a change through the match, the former taking ten wickets for 45 runs, while Cave obtained a similar number for 50 runs. MELBOURNE C.C. v. CANTERBURY. Journeying to Christchurch, the Melbourne Cricketers commenced a match against Canterbury on Friday. The local captain won the toss, and his side commenced batting on a good wicket in splendid weather, and before a large gathering of interested spectators A. Sims 10, W. C. H. Wigley 27, W. Robertson 13, and J. N. Fowke, not out, 10, were the only batsmen to obtain double figures, and the innings ultimately clos.d for 93. The Melbourne men started with Mailer and Fry. lhe former was soon dis missed by Robertson, but Fry a.d Trumble gave Graham very valuable assistance, and the score was rapidly put together. Trumble made 55 by excellent cricket, while Graham was not dismissed until he had made 169. He gave a splendid exhibition of batting, and was warmly applauded on returning to the pavilion. The total for the innings was 336, and contained only 8 extras, a feat which speaks well for Fowke’s form behind the sticks. Robertson was the most successful trundler for Canterbury, his six wickets costing 132 runs. Batting against a minority of 243, the Canterbury batsmen did better than at their first attempt. The innings realised 135. A. E. Ridley played a very good innings for 63, and his brother put together 21 before being retired. Other batsmen to obtain double figures were Sims 19, and Wigley 17 Trumble again bowled very effectively, capturing seven wicket for only 35 runs. THE CUP MATCHES.

After one of those adjournments which kill the interest in cricket, the senior matches were resumed on Saturday. At the Shore Parnell continued their first innings, and at the drawing of stumps had compiled 361 for the loes of five wickets. Ike Mills carried his share to 152, not out. • Lusk also exceeded the century, his 102 being made by sound cricket, though at times his patience was rather wearisome.

So far the Ponsonby men have the best of the game with Gordon. In their first innings the former made 121, Gordon replying with 62. Batting a second time, , Ponsonby had scored 112 for eleven wickets when the bell rang. The Gordon team are now 171 behind, and have a full day before them. ’ ’ Against Uni'ed Auckland continued their first innings, and 'ook the score from 104 to 260 before the last wicket fell. Stone 52, Nicholson 69, and Shepherd 32, all p ayed good cricket for their runs, the last named t coring with particular freedom He batted gracefully, and his hitting was very clean. At the call of time, United had lost two wickeds (Clayton and Stemson) for about 50 runs. During Auckland’s batting, Newell Lusk, the United ‘ wicket-keeper, misjudged a throw in from Carlton Hay, and the ball struck him right over the eye, inflicting a nasty cut, and rendering him unconscious, Lusk was taken to the Hospital, where the wound was stitched up. After some little time, he recovered sufficiently to be able to walk down to the ground At first serious consequences were feared, but happily these anticipations »ere not realised.
