The Auckland Amateur Athletic and ’Cycle Club holds its forty-first sports carnival on the Domain Cricket Ground, Saturday next, March 10. The entries for the various events on the lengthty programme are good, and, seeing that the championship team, who recently won the banner, will be competitors, a good day’s sport should be ensured. The first event is timed to start at 1.30 p m. Afternoon tea will be provided for the ladies. Two flat races are on the programme of the League of N.Z. Wheelmens’ (Auckland Centre) Championship Meeting, to be held at Devonport, on Wednesday next. The Auckland A.A. and C.C. intended having a 300yds event on their programme for members of the Bough Riders’ Contingent, but as the contingent left for the south during the week, this had to be withdrawn. The Auckland Rough Riders held a Gymkhana at Potter’s Paddock on Saturday last There was a good attendance, and an inter* sting programme was gone through. Included in the programme were two amateur events, which resulted as follows : —looyds Amateur Handicap, Private Fitzpatrick (2yds) 1 ; Private Shera (2yds) 2. 300yds Amateur Handicap, Bombar-
dier Campbell, 1; Private Shera (4yds), 12; Private Fitzpatrick, 3 Mark Herbert, who finished almost abreast of the winner in the 440yds Flat Championship at Wellington, was accidentally, though severely, spiked by a club mate in the early part of the race. A vein was pierced, and Herbert had to be removed from the ground in a cab.
