James Webster, who accompanied Mr G-ollan’s horses to England, returned here last week. He does not speak in favourable terms of stable .work in England, and is not sure whether James Hickey, will stay there or not. It is thought improbable that be will. Mr Harry Piper, the starter, arrived from South yesterday, and arranged to-day to do the starting at the Wellington Racing Club Summer Meeting. He leaves for Hastings to-morrow to start at the Hawkes Bay Meeting on Boxing Day. He is further engaged at Ashburton and Timaru on January Ist and 2nd, Hororata on the 7th, then journeying to Gisborne for the Poverty Bay Meeting on the 15th and 16th, and getting here in time for the Wellington Cup. I understand it is improbable the usual saddle hack race meeting will be held at Martinborough on Christmas Day this year. The Wairarapa Racing Club has notified the Warrington Racing Club of the resolution passed at a recent meeting of stewards, protesting against saddle hack race meetings being held in the district on Christmas Day, and it is therefore probable that all persons and horses taking part in the Featherstone Meeting will be disqualified. Mr H. M. Lyon, secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, has never visited Martinborough, but will be present at the Lower Valley Jockey Club Meeting on Boxing Day. There is nothing doing on the Wellington Cup. Punters are awaing the decision of the Auckland and Palmerston North Cups.
