Cheque, who was purchased for £ll a short ■while back, is evidently getting back to something like his old form. ■' At the Feilding meeting he sran second in the Flying and won the Shorts. Ben Lomond,-by Ascot, has been purchased by 'the jockey, W. Holmes. The horse will be remembered as a good hack-hurdler a couple of seasons back. Mr C; Needle’s horses, Johnny Faa and Epilogue, left by the s.s. Manawatu last week for .-the West Coast. They are under the care of C. Birkett, trainer and rider. Nile, by Nelson —Florence, who ran well in ’•hack races at Wanganui, will, I hear, leave for rthe West Coast on Thursday. Jimmy Peachey, who was training for Mr J. Davidson, of Hawera, has severed his connection with that stable and is now training for Mr G. iGibson.
Tommy Rowe, the well-known racing man,has taken Peachey’s place and will in future prepare Mr Davidson’s horses for their engagements. Snap Cap, by Foul Shot —Bombshell, has been purchased by Alick Cameron, of Parawanui, who has also under his care the hero of the Feilding Hack events, viz., Gunboat, by Torpedo —Barbarian mare, who has been nominated for open events at the Rangitikei meeting. Good nominations were received by the Wanganui Club.for their Cup race and the Wanganui Stakes. There are thirty-four in the Cup and thirty-nine in the Stake's. Among the entries are the names of Magazine, Skirmisher, Royal Rose, Lottie, Rangipuhi, Rosefeldt, Saracen, and Prime Warden.
