Mr D. McKinnon has sold his filly Agate, by Flintlock out of Scot Free’s dam, t o Mr Portland. The price is said to have been £250, but I doubt that. Mr Portland is a good buyer, and could have bought something very much better than I take Agate to be for £250. Mr Harry Piper has been appointed starter for the Hawkes Bay Jockey Club’s Summer Meeting. TheMahaka Racing ‘Club having informed the H.B.J.C. that the Maoris at Mohaka had held a scratch race meeting at which the totalisator was used, the Metropolitan Club very properly disqualified all person and horses taking part in the meeting for an infringement of the rules of ■juicing. The trophy to be presented with the H.B. Cup an March next has already been selected, and will be from the establishment of Messrs Hardy Bros., of Sydney. Would Mr Pettit exchange his new purchase, the two-year-old colt Beaubarnais by Gang Forward—Josephine, for Agate, I wonder ? I don’t think so ; and yet the colt did not cost anything like £250. „ , TTT . Dreamland has been scratched for the Waipawa ■County. Racing Club Handicap, Allanadale for the Flying Handicap, and Prince Charlie for all •engagements at the Waipawa County Racing dub’s Summer Meeting. * The Senior Cup match between the County and United Clnbs, on the Recreation Ground on Saturday, resulted in some good play being witnessed. The County scored 131 in the first innings, and the United 151. Lewis, 25 was top scorer on the County side, and.Ludbrook, 54; and' Bradley, 48, did yeoman service for United. The Napier and Waiapu played at Farndon, but the bowling was too good to admit of big scores being made. The Waiapu eleven were all out for 53 Tims, S. Cato, 16, being the chief contributor. The Napier total was 87, J. C. Martin, 20, Laws, 17, and Wolstenholme, 13, being principal scorers. Gardiner and Wolstenholme shared the bowling honours for Napier, and Fannin and Beale for Waiapu.
