Wellington, November 28. Great interest is being manifested in senior cricket and exciting finishes are anticipated, but to my mind the Midlands will more than hold their own, as they have an excellent team and are strongly represented in every department of the game. In their match on Saturday against the Wellington j st they were successful in winning by 3 wickets, Tabby Wynyard, late of Auckland, contributing 21 (not out) in fine style for the Wellington. Duncan (an old Wanganui College boy) batted well for 36, whilst C. Gore put on 29 in an excellent manner. In the Phcenix v. Rivals heat of the senior championship, the latter proved victorious by ten wickets. For Phoenix Niven made 26, whilst for the Rivals’ Dryden 22, and Cross 19, produced the required number of runs to win.

Athletes here are busy training for the amateur gathering to be held on the Basin Reserve next Saturday, December 2; and as the entries number 296, representing 102 competitors, there is sure

to be interesting results. Kempton, I hear, is not going to run, and I think by the appearance of things Jack’s sprinting days art' over, as he is looking very unwell lately. Larkin and McKinley are running. Both of these young fellows are from Auckland, and their chances in the 120yds and mile respectively are considered good. In the yacht races on Saturday the Isca won the first class event, with the .Maritana second and the Rona a bad third. The second-class race resulted in the Pet obtaining first place, with the Mapu and Malina second and third respectively. Proteus.
