Amateur Athletic Meeting.

The Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club had their usual good fortune in the matter of weather for their twentyeighth Athletic Carnival. The day was almost perfect, the attendance was highly

satisfactory, and the condition of the track was all in favour of fast racing. There was no record breaking, but Burton gave a splendid exhibition of walking in the one-mile event, which he cut out in ymin 2 5-10 sec, being only one-tenth of a second behind the record for the colony. Gaudin’s long jump, 20 feet 11 inches, was another fine effort, and in the cycling races Reynolds’ grand displays aroused great enthusiasm amongst the spectators. In the 1,2, 3 and 5 mile events he timed his spurts with admirable judgment, and won as he liked. The starting, which is always a feature of these meetings, was excellent and punctual to the advertised time, and an interesting display of club swinging was given during the afternoon by pupils of the Native School under the direction of Prof. Carrollo. Reynolds showed himself to be a great judge of pace at the Spirts on Saturday in his wins in the one, two, three and five mile bicycle races. In giving my anticipations for the sports last week I selected him, on his training track form, to win the three last events. Should Reynolds ever turn his attention to the Austral wheel race, his colours should show up prominently on the Melbourne Cricket Ground tracks.
