May 29. A Social. The social held under the auspices of St. Paul’s Bible Class took place last Tuesday, and proved to be a very enjoyable function indeed. There were a good number of people present, and a good musical programme was given, and was much appreciated. A novel competition was held, the winners being: Miss La Mont, first; Miss O. Oxley, second; and Miss Amy Clinch, third. A delicious supper was handed round by a band of willing helpers. Those who assisted witli the programme wetz: Mrs Edmund's, Mrs Nicol, Miss Wheatley, Miss L. Cragg, Miss Myrtle Brisco, Miss B. Stuart, Miss Isohel Bush, Mr Patterson, Mr Russell, and Mr Hutt. The accompaniments were kindly played by Mrs Arthur, Miss B. Stuart, and Miss L. Wheatley. Private Dance. Very jolly indeed was the general verdict of the dancers who assembled in the Albert Hall last Monday evening, and danced to the strains of the full orchestra, under.the conductorship of Mr A. J. Bush, .with Miss Wheatley at the piano. The night was fine for dancing, and the floor good. Supper was provided by the ladies, and proved very acceptable. Those present were: Mesdames E. Carter, D. One of the most enjoyable and pleasant dances of the year, so far, was held' in the Albert Hall last Wednesday evening, under the auspices of the Picton Croquet Club. The music was good, and the floor was perfect for dancing. Supper was provided by the ladies of the club and their friends. Storey, green silk, with an overdress of beaded ninon, and a bunch of pale pink roses on the corsage; Mrs Lucena, black silk, blue cloak ; Mrs Maitland, black, relieved with cream lace; Mrs Madsen, cream satin; Mrs Fell, black silk; Mrs Vickers, cream silk, blue cloak; Mrs Cawte, cream voile, trimmed with bands of eream insertion; Miss Dooley, pink satin; Miss Chambers, white charmeuse; Mrs Harwood, black merveilleux, relieved with cream silk lace, and a black satin cloak was also worn; Mrs Petrie, green silk voile; Mrs King, blaek silk; Miss Oxley, white charmeusd; Miss O. Oxley, white embroidered frock, relieved with a cerise ribbon; Miss Barr, white lawn; Miss Greensill, white muslin, blue belt; Miss M. Mr and Mrs Jacobsen, of Dunedin, are the guests of Mr and Mrs Charlie Philpotts, High Street. Mrs Matthews. Spring Creek, and Miss Dimant, Wellington, are enjoying a holiday in Pieton, and are occupying the house of Mr and Mrs G. P. Morris. York Street. Miss Tris M illiams, Seddon, is visiting Mrs Chambers, Wairau Road. Mrs D. Fuller. Seddon, is the guest of Mrs J. Fuller, Kent Street, for a few days.

Mr and Mrs A. J. Wicks, Blenheim, came down to Picton on Monday last, and are staying with Mrs J. G. Macalister, Taranaki Street. Nurse McKenzie, who has been assisting at the local hospital for a short time, returned to Wellington last Tuesday. The Very Rev. Dr. Mules, late Bishop of Nelson, who conducted the serviced at Holy Trinity Church last Sunday, has been the guest of the Rev. T. J. Smith and Mrs Smith.
