March 7. Farewell Parties. Stratford for the last few weeks has indeed been gay, but it was a gaiety tempered with sadness, as the occasion for all the parties were farewells to several old residents who have left the district for good. The first was a farewell given for Mrs Wake, which took the form of a large garden partv, held at Mrs T. S. Fooke’s residence. Over fifty people were present. Mrs Fookes, on behalf of the ladies of Stratford, presented Mrs Wake with a gold bangle. A delightful tea was spread in the shrubbery. The Bridge Club gave a delightful party for Mrs Stubbs. After several rubbers were played Mrs Budge, the president, presented Mrs Stubbs with a hand-

some brooch in remembrance of many pleasant bridge evenings. The first prize was won by Mrs Glasgow, and the second by Mrs Uniacke. Mrs Glasgow’ gave a bridge party to farewell Mrs Stubbs and Mrs Wake.

Mrs Young also had a large bridge party, prizes being won by Mrs Grant, Mrs Rennell, and booby by Mrs Paget. Mrs Rennell gave a jolly little bridge party for Mrs Stubbs, Mrs Budge winning first prize and Mrs Ross second. Mrs Budge held a bridge party also, Mrs Uniacke winning first prize, Mrs Abraham second, and Miss Payne booby. Mrs Uniacke also had a farewell to Mrs Stubbs with a bridge party, Mrs Glasgow securing first prize, Mrs Rennell second, and Mrs Abraham booby. Mrs Richards gave a nice card party for both Mrs Stubbs and Mrs Anderson. Mrs E. Robinson gave a large bridge evening also for Mrs Stubbs. A number of Mrs Stubbs’ friends met at Mrs Dillon Carbery’s residence to present her with a very handsome pendant and earrings on the eve of her departure for Auckland. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent, a game of euehre being indulged in, Mrs Carey and Mrs Grant securing the prizes. Mrs Copping gave a party for Mrs Anderson, who leaves shortly for Auckland, and' Mrs Anderson’s lady friends presented her with a pretty necklet. Personal. Miss Payne, who was the guest of Mrs A. Budge, has left, for Wellington. Miss Hanby, who has been visiting her sister in this town, has left for Wellington. Mrs Reynords has been spending a few days with her brother and 1 sister-in-law. Mr and Mrs J. B. Richards. Judge and Mrs Denniston are the guests of their daughter, Mrs 11. Abrahams. Mrs R. Hogg has returned after paying a visit to her sister, Mrs Sellar (Masterton). Mrs MeTaggart (England) has been the guest of Mrs E. C. Robinson for the last few days. Miss Grizelda Hogg has returned to Wanganui after a long visit to her aunt, Mrs Glasgow. Mr and Mrs Harry Good are spending a few days in Stratford. Dr. and Mrs Earl (Wanganui) are visiting Stratford. Mrs Carey is visiting her sister-in-law. Mrs A. W. Budge. Mrs Budge has returned after a short visit to Mrs Gault (Inglewood). Mrs Stevens has left for Christchurch. Mr Wake left for Auckland, where he will be joined shortly by Mrs Wake and the Misses Wake. Mrs Stubbs -left for Auckland, where she will spend a month or so visiting friends prior to joining Mr Stubbs in Opunake.
