January 17. Overseas Club. Next week the Wellington members of the Overseas Club are entertaining the English visitors, Mr. Evelyn Wrench and his sister, who have been some weeks in New Zealand. During their travels they have passed through Wellington several times, and have of course met the prominent members of the Overseas Club, which they are doing so much to promote on their tour round the world. At the coming reception, both Mr. Wrench and Miss Wrench are to speak on the ideals and aims of the Club. Incidentally. Miss Wrench is keenly interested in Kindergarten work, and is herself highly trained in that branch of education. Summer Holidays. By degrees sunburnt people are returning to town after their holidays in the country or by the sea, but the perfect weather has enticed people to stay longer than they had intended. A very successful camping party is just baek after exploring Mount Hector and the neighbourhood, which is practically unknown to most Wellingtonians, although Mr. Field and one or two pioneers have long been chanting its praises. The party mainly consisted of members of the Burnett, Atkinson, and Hursthouse families, who are experienced campers, and for years past have had an annual outing in Queen Charlotte Sound. Pergonal. Mrs. Johnston, w’ho has been in England for the last nine months was a passenger to New Zealand by the Maloja, and will shortly be at “Highden” again. Mr. Doughty and Miss Kitty Doughty have gone for a trip to England. Mrs. and Miss Dalrymple are expected back from their trip to England at the end of this month. Towards the end of February, Mrs. and the Misses Fitzherbert are going to South America for a visit. Mr. C. Fitzherbert has been living there for some time.

Miss Anson, who came out from England last November with her sister (now Mrs. Estcourt), is baek in Wellington again after a long round of visits among friends and relations in the South Island. At present she is staying with Captain and Mrs. Estcourt. Miss Anson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Anson, who used to live in Canterbury. Mrs. Mason, who has been spending a month or two here on her way back from England, has gone on to Dunedin.

Miss Jones (Lower Hutt) has gone South with her.

Colonel and Mrs. Collins, who are not long from England, have taken Mr. Salmond’s house on L T pland Road, Kelburne.

Mrs and Miss Brandon took a flying trip to the Wairarapa for Miss Kebbell’s wedding. Later on, Mr. and Mrs. Brandon, with Misses Lucy and Nora Brandon, are going to England for a holiday.

Mrs. Tweed and her daughters are leaving this year for a visit to the Old Country. Mrs. and Miss Wylie, who eame baek last week from a month in Picton, are also off to England for a trip.

Mr. and Mrs. John Abbott and their children are going Home in February. Miss Mary Seaton has gone to Nelson for a visit to the Bishop of Nelson and Mrs. Sadlier.

Mrs. Arnott Anderson, who has been spending Christinas with her people at Karori, has returned to her home at Taumarunui. Her sister, Miss Rhoda Bristow, accompanies her for a visit. Mrs. J. E. D. Spicer has gone back to Auckland after a stay of some weeks at the Hutt with her parents, Mr. and Afro. Adams.

Miss Payne is baek in Wellington after an absence of two months in Australia. Miss R. van Staveren has gone to Opiti with her sister, Mrs. Israel, who has been visiting Wellington. Mrs. Henry Hadfield, who has been spending two or three weeks in Wellington, has gone baek to Otaki. Lady Stout and Miss Janet Stout are back in Wellington, after their trip South.

Mrs. and Miss Barratt (England) are visiting Wellington.

On January 29th the marriage will be solemnised of Miss Alice Rawson, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Rawson, Wellington, and Mr, L. Davison, of Canterbury. The wedding reception will be held Q it Seatoun.
