November 29. Tennis Party. On Saturday afternoon a small tennis party was given by Mrs. Wigram, at her residence, Park Terrace. The players were: Mr. and Mrs. Lambert Bowen, Miss Rolleston, Mr. and Mrs. Beswick, the Misses Anderson (2), Miss Harley, Mr. C. Wigram, and Mr. Cotterill. Afternoon Tea. An afternoon tea was given at Fendalton on Tuesday by Mrs. P. Hanmer, in honour of and as a farewell to her niece. Miss Madeline Hanmer, whose marriage with Mr. Wilder takes place next week. Concerts. The Christchurch Musical Union gave a very enjoyable concert at His Ma-, jesty’s Theatre on Tuesday evening. The vocalist, Mrs. Lawford Reeves, has a well-trained, sweet voice, which will prove a valuable addition to the Christchurch concerts. Mrs. Reeves wore a pretty white gown, with black overskirt and panels of cream lace, relieved with touches of cerise. Miss Rima Young (pianist) wore white muslin and silk; Miss Eva Pascoe (violin), pale pink velvet, relieved with lace. Mrs. Guthrie (’cello). Miss Irene Morris (violin), Miss Vera A’Court (violin), and Miss N. Mclntyre (viola) played Schumann’s quintet, accompanied by Miss Rima Young. On Wednesday evening a farewell concert was given at the Choral Hall by Mr. Clifford O'Keefe and his sister, Miss Cissie O’Keefe, who were both prizewinners of distinction in New Zealand competitions. They were assisted by Mr. Ernest Empson (pianist), Mr. A ere Buchanan, and Mr. L. Bonnington (violinists), and Mr. C. E. Spencer (accompanist). A concert was given on Thursday night at the Choral Hall by Air. Alfred AA orsley, assisted by Mrs. Gower Burns i vocalist). Miss Louise Croucher (violinist). Dr. Bradshaw, and the Christchurch Quartet Company. Mr. and Mrs. AV. de C. Malet left Christchurch for India on Thursday, November 28th. Mrs. Gordon (Hawke’s Bay) is staying with Airs. Alichael Campbell at Avonside. Miss N. Campbell has returned to Christchurch from Greymouth. Airs. Inman (Christchurch) is staying with Airs. Knight, at Racecourse Hill. Airs. Derek AVestenra and children are spending a few weeks at Sumner. Airs. E. F. J. Grigg and family are staying at Sumner. Aliss Ogle (Christchurch) is visiting the Aliases Clifford, at Stonyhurst. Alisa L. Rattray and Alias Gosset (Christchurch) are staying with friends in Dunedin. Air. and Airs. H. D. Acland have returned to Christchurch from England. Aladame Betty Brooke lias returned to Christchurch from a trip to England and America. Alias Dorothj Heritage left Christchurch yesterday to join the Oscar Aselie Company in Australia. At the recent Royal College of Music examination, Alias Vera Barker, of Christchurch, who has been studying music nt St. Dominie’s College. Dunedin, passed the teachers' examination, gaining 167 marks.
