May 11. Afternoon Tea. Mrs Agnew-Brown had an afternoon tea on Wednesday, but only a few people turned up, as the weather was so stormy. Afternoon tea was served in the diningroom, the table being decorated with pink chrysanthemums and autumn leaves. Mrs Agnew-Brown received her guests in a dove grey dress trimmed with Oriental embroidery; Mrs J. Field, blank facecloth coat and skirt, black hat with soft white feather trimming; Mrs F. Parker, blue costume, black toque; Mrs Reynolds, navy blue lustre eoat and skirt, black hat; Miss Seth-Smith (England), brown costume, brown straw hat with wreath of red berries and bow of black and white ribbon; Mrs. A. Murray, navy costume, black silk hat trimmed

with bows of white silk; Miss Murray, Hue serge coat and skirt, black velvet toque with frilling of white lace; Mrs R. Gully, blue shantung dress, straw hat with grey feather mount; Mrs C. Bennett, grey coat and skirt, set of white fox furs, black silk hat with white feathers; Mrs. H. <M. Porter, grey- frieze costume, hat to match; Mrs. J. Bourke, navy tailored costume, black toque; Miss Shaw, brown coat and skirt, straw hat with white wings. Birthday Party. Last Tuesday Mrs. G. T. Black (Kaiti) gave a birthday party for her little grandson, George. The children played in the garden, and then finished up with games inside. There was a most delicious tea —every sweet ami dainty that could be thought of. The table was beautifully arranged with daisies, and a large birthday cake in the centre. Mrs. G. T. Black wore a black silk dress; Mrs. R. Black, saxe frock; Miss Black, green linen pinafore dress; Miss B. Black, slate grey silk; Mrs. Carlyle Wilson, blue coat and skirt, muff and stole, suede hat with wings; Mrs. R. U. Burke, saxe blue dress, hat with blue wings; Mrs. Reeve, blaek and white coat and skirt, black felt hjit with pheasant; Mrs. R. G. Crawford, heather mixture costume, black hat, trimmed with bunches of violets and green leaves; Mrs. (Dr.) Williams, grey cloth costume, black hat; Mrs. Pavitt, brown coat and skirt, brown toque with pink roses; Mrs. C. Sainsbury, green costume, tweed hat; Miss L. Coleman, blue serge dress, blaek fur hat; Miss D. Bennett, blue cloth coat and skirt, blaek hat ; Mrs. J. Blair, crushed strawl»erry dress, large straw hat with glace silk bows; Miss Evans, slate grey dress, blaek beaver hat; Miss 11. Nolan, tweed coat and skirt, beaver hat with wings; Miss F. Davies, navy costume, blaek hat, lined with white lace. Amongst the children were: George Black, Edith and Jim Wilson, Tony and Colin Reeve, Nancy Williams, John Crawford, Nancy Coleman, Brian Burke. George Sainsbury, Treasure Blair. Personal. Mr. 11. R. Tulloek has sold his property (“Mangatarata") to Mr. W. Busby. Mr. and Mrs. 11. R. Tulloek will start for Canada next month. Alisa Shaw (Rakauroa) has been the guest of Mrs. A. Murray (Kaiti). Air. ami Airs. J. Adair, whose wedding took place in Wellington some weeks ago, have come back from their honeymoon, which was spent in Auckland and Rotorua. Air. Adair has taken Airs. Arthur Seymour’s house furnished for a few weeks until his is finished being built on the Kaiti. The Aliases Seth-Smith (Surrey, England) arc staying with Mrs. Reynolds (“Sandown”).
