August 25. Shakespeare Club. The Wanganui Shakespeare Club gave a very successful reading of ‘•The Winter's Tale" on Monday, 21st inst., in the A*-enibly Hall of the Girls* College. Last week Mr. and Mrs. D’Arcy gave a very enjoyable bridge party for young people. The prizes were won by Miss Ewen (Wellington) and Mr. Enderby. Amongst those present were: Miss Brewer. Mi-s Gould, Miss Spencer, Mi<s Ashcroft, Miss Ewen (Wellington), Messrs. Stevenson. Chamberlain. Turnbull. Reid. Enderby. Anderson, Moore. ■Several other bridge parties have been given, one by Mrs Hesse. (St. John’s Hill), in honour of her mother, Mrs. Fin-h (Christchurch). Mrs. J. Anderson also gave one for Mrs. Dodgshun (Wellington). and Mrs. Ballance gave one for Mrs. F. Hatterley (Marton). Mrs. Barnard Brown gave one for Mrs. Horrocks (Auckland). Afternoon Tea. An afternoon tea was given bv Mrs. C. Hutton (St. John’s Hill; for Mrs. Hutten iCanterbury). Amongst those present were: Mrs. Watt, Airs. Christie, Mrs. Ballance, Mrs. Ritchie, Mrs. D'Arcy, Mrs. Brettargh, Mrs. F. Jones, Mrs. Finch (Christchurch i, Mrs. Hes-?e. Arts and Crafts. The Arts and Crafts exhibition has been open for a week, and there is a very good exhibit of pictures, brass work leather work. etc. It has been well patronized. and has a tea and supper-room connected. Mrs. Pattle-Izett, the energetic secretary, was responsible for the great success, she having worked very hard both before and during the time the exhibition has been opened. Every evening enjoyable 'concerts have been given. Amongst those present I noticed Mrs. spencer. Miss Spenser, Rev. and Mrs. Dove, Mrs. Strouts, Mrs. Kitchen, Miss Willis, Miss Hawken.
