CAMBRIDGE.

July 22. Farmers' Social. On Wednesday evening the Farmers’ Club held their annual social in the Town Hall. It passed off most successfully, fully 300 being present. About tX> played progressive euchre on the stage, while dancing, interspersed with songs and recitations, filled in a most enjoyable evening. The arrangements were in the hands of Mr. J. Fisher, jun., president; Mr. W. J. Andrews, vicepresident; and Mr. I. Veale, secretary. There was a very large refreshment «om'mittee, consisting of about twenty ladies, who were responsible for a most delicious supper, and the table decorations were very artistically arranged by Mesdames, Veale, Nixon, and W. Hunter. Miss McFarlane played excellent danee music, and during the evening a quartette by Mrs. Edmonds, Miss Reeee, and Messrs. Curtain and R. Fisher was very well rendered. Miss Neal played a pianoforte piece, and Mr. 11. Lewis gave a recitation. The euchre prizes were won by Mrs. Rutter, ladies’ first prize; Mrs. McDermott, 2nd; gentlemen’s prizes—Mr. Kent, 1; Mr. Fisher, 2nd. Hockey Ball. On Friday evening the second annual hockey ball was held in the Town Hall, and, although not so well attended as had been hoped, those present spent a most enjoyable time. The niusie was excellent, and the door was in good order. A lovely supper was provided. The tables were beautifully decorated by Mrs. W. Hunter and Mrs. B. Nixon, and lighted with tiny-coloured candles arranged in silver stands, and pink paper festooned from the gaseliers, the whole arrangement being most artistic. Mr.

Isherwood, the president, was ably assisted by Mr. K. Court, the hon. sec. During an interval the Mayor (Mr. G. Dickenson) presented the shield to the Leamington Club. Martyn, in black velvet gown with yoke of white lace and chiffon, trimmed with pearl trimming; Mrs. Allwill, black silk trimmed with jet; Mrs. O’Toole, 'black silk and pale blue scarf; Mrs. A. Gibbons, very dainty frock of palest pink crepe trimmed with silk applique; Mrs. Halley, Wack eolienne silk, with yoke of white chiffon, outlined with pastel trimming, and lovely point lace, silver grey cloak trimmed withblack; Miss V. Allwill, white crystalline, trimmed with silver; Mrs. Smith, black and silver, and blue scarf; Miss Smith, white muslin with lillies of the valley in her hair; Miss I. Pickering, pale blue silk trimmed with white lace; Miss N. Pickering, pink silk; Ai'-s M. Pickering, white eharmeuse, with tunic of

white ninon edged with silver; Mrs. Murrell, handsome gown of creme embroidered satin; Miss Nixon, rose pink chiffon taffeta, trimmed with silver sequins; Miss MeNeish, pale pink satin, trimmed with silver Miss B. Taylor, pretty pale pink silk frock, with Oriental trimming; Miss Hamilton, pretty salmon pink satin eharmeuse, bodice trimmed with oxidised silver trimming; Miss Brown, white silk, silver trimming; Miss Hill, a pretty gown of white silk voile trimmed with white bugle, anil silver, and silver band in her hair; Miss Alice Hally, white muslin trimmed with pretty allover embroidery; Miss Cora Hill, white silk voile frock trimmed with silver; Miss M. Boyce, creme silk; Miss K. Hally, white muslin frock, with pretty allover embroidery; Miss B. Nixon, white silk; Mrs. W. Hunter, white silk frock, and creme silk Maltese lace scarf; Miss O’Toole, heliotrope, silk frock; Miss Reeee, white muslin; Mrs. Chapman, black silk, and lace gown; Miss Chapman, pink muslin; Miss Malins, white muslin; Miss Booth, white silk and silver; Miss M. Roberts, heliotrope silk.

Personal. Mrs. and Miss Richardson have returned from their trip to Auckland. Miss Jackson has gone to Auckland for a few days. Mr. Alen Willis, of the Bank of New Zealand, Cambridge, has gone to Hamilton on relieving duty for a month. Mr. and Mrs. Jay are staying with Mrs. Rout, of Leamington.
