April 28. Dancing; Carnival. The dancing carnival organised by the H.B. (.Ticket Association opened in the Theatre Royal on Wednesday evening. Before the programme was commenced, the Mayor (Mr. J. V. Brown) addressed the audience, and explained how much it meant to cricket in Hawke's Bay that this carnival should prove a success. The first item was “The Japanese Bil-ikcns,” twelve in number who appear on the stage dressed in quaint garments of many colours. Gradually other dancers appear from all directions, and as the coloured lights are turned on the scene is a most effective one. “The Silvery Moon,” sung by the Misses PattyElliot and Dolly Barnes, with intervals of dancing, was a very good idea. Mr. Remington was most successful with his song, “ The Pyramids” Miss Higgins sang “ Rings on my fingers” very prettily. “-Sleigh Bells,” by Miss Leah Spiller and Miss Patty Elliot, and the “Statue Dance,” with clogs and shawls, were two good items. The gem of the evening was the “ Danza d’Amor ” by Professor Cardston and Mrs. Jowett. The dance is one of great charm and grace, and was received by the audience with much enthusiasm. Mrs. Jowett is always most popular here as an amateur actress. The whole programme reflects great credit on Professor Cardston, who has trained all the dancers during the last few weeks. A Dance.
