February 2. Afternoon Tea. An afternoon tea, given by Miss MacLean for the Misses Barker, on their departure for England, took place last Monday. During the afternoon a rhymemaking competition took place. The result caused a good deal of amusement, the prize-winner being Miss G. Williams. Miss Mac Lean wore a dainty white muslin, trAimed with white embroidery; Miss E. Barker, Paisley ninon over saxe blue satin, blue hat; Miss L. Barker, white muslin, mauve hat; Miss F. One of the jolliest little evenings given in Gisborne took place on Friday evening last, when Mrs. J. Blair (Kaiti) gave a small progressive euchre party and danee for the Misses Barker, who are leaving shortly for England. Mrs. Blair, who received her guests in the entrance hall, wore a pretty gown of white floral muslin over dark green silk; Miss Evans, pale blue ninon, caught up with old gold silk, with finishings of same on bodice; Miss E. Barker, blue satin; Miss L. Barker, pink satin, white net overdress; Miss M. Barker, pink satin with bugle trimming; Miss M. Sherratt, pale blue ninon, silver bead trimming; Miss Symes, white chiffon over glace silk; Miss Ensor, flame-coloured silk gown; Miss Black, vieux rose silk; Miss Anderson (Motu), pink floral muslin gown over silk; Miss M. Williamson, pale blue silk; Miss White, pale blue chiffon taffeta, pearl trimming; Miss L. A most enjoyable afternoon tea was given on Wednesday last by Mrs. WilJock at her picturesque residence on Kaiti, the flowers in the garden, one of the loveliest in Gisborne, being a perfect picture, even the paths being carpeted with many coloured ice plants, which seemed almost sacrilege to step on. Mrs. Willock received her guests in the hall entrance, her gown, a very graceful one, being of black chiffon taffeta, slightly trained, trimmed bands of blaek velvet, a vest of folded white ehlffon edged with Irish point d’aleneon,

large floral hat; Miss Willis, who assisted in entertaining, wore white embroidered linen, hat with roses; Mrs. P. Willock, white embroidered muslin, white hat with crimson flowers; Mrs. J. Miss Brabant (Napier) is at present visiting Gisborne.
