January, 19. Croquet. A large “At Home” was given by Dr. and Mrs. Philip Andrew, at their residence, Stoke. The many guests were entertained at a garden party, and games of croquet caused much excitement and interest. Mrs. Andrew was wearing a pretty gown of pale grey striped taffeta;

The ladies’ prize was won by Mrs. Allen, and the gentlemen’s prize fell to Mr. G. A. Macquarie, while Mr. Allen won the booby prize. Mrs. Booth wore black silk; Miss Elsie Booth, emerald green charmeuse, with gold galon; Miss Dora Booth, white muslin; Miss Mary Hail (England), black silk voile; Mrs. Barr, green, eharmeuse; Mrs. Wright (Cable Bay), cream lace froek, with insertions; Mrs. Renwick, black satin; Miss Richmond, cream floral chiffon over silk; Mrs. Jack Sharp, cream taffeta; Mrs. Noel Adams, French grey satin; Mrs. Harrison, black silk; Mrs. Allen, black chiffon; Mrs. Brown, pale grey chiffon; Mrs. Hamilton Smith, grey Ottoman silk; Mrs. S. Miss Talbot (Richmond) has returned from her visit to the West Coast. Colonel Webb and his brother, Captain Webb (India), have returned from their visit to Christchurch. Mrs. T. Maunsell has left for her home in Carterton. Miss Sylvia Buchanan has left for India, where her marriage will take place. Mrs. Tonkin (Napier) is the guest of Mrs. Henry Edwards. Dr. Hudson (Tapawera) has gone for a visit to the North Island.
