December 22. Handkerchief Afternoon. A handkerchief afternoon was given by Airs. Seymour on Thursday for Miss Dawkins. The weather was not what it might have been. Still there were a goodly number present, all of whom enjoyed the competition, the beautiful flowers, and a most sumptuous tea, Airs. Seymour received her guests in a handsome blaek voile; and Airs. Riddell, •who was assisting her mother, was also in blaek. Alost of the. guests were in wintry costumes, though, of course, that did not detract from the pleasure of the occasion. After tea the prizes were presented, Aliss Allen winning the first, and Mrs, Vickers the second prize, while “the booby” was awarded to Miss M. Dawkins. On Saturday the Picton Brass Band Went to Havelock to play for the benefit of the funds of the Cottage Hospital. -They were generously entertained by the residents, and tlic fnuds 'were augmented by £5O, collected at the time. Personal. Mrs. Cracroft and family, Wellington are spending the holidays in the Pelorus Sound y ith Air. and Airs. 11. Harris. The Rev. A. 11. Sedgwisk, a former vicar of Picton, and Mrs. Sedgwick, Onebunga, are visiting the Misses Harris in Pieton. Air. Robert Macalister has passed his first solicitors’ examination this year. (He is not yet twenty-one years of age. Aliss Jean Beauchamp, of Wellington, Jias gone to Alahau to visit her relations Air. and Airs. J. Anderson. . Aliss Al.
