November I. ( At the Show. Fine weather favoured the inhabitants of Gisborne for the annual show lasf( Tuesday and Wednesday, though a westerly wind blowing on Wednesday—, People’s Day—made things somewhat unpleasant, on account of the dust. A great number of ladies turned out on Tuesday, but the majority on Wednesday, a very largo concourse of people' attending that day. Amongst those; present were —Alesdames Reynolds, IS< Sherratt, W. Sherratt, Alaude, Preston, Reeve, T. Sherratt, Shield (Hastings), Watson, Morice, Burke, C. Sainsbury, O« Sainsbury, Barker, F. B. Barker, R. Barker, Parker, Rees, Bright, Murray) Morrison, C. Thomas, Willock, Stephenson, Williams, Busby, etc.

Some very fine exhibitions of riding were given by the ladies, Aliss K. Sherratt, a prize winner, being particularly) good at jumping. The Races.

Thursday and Friday last were given up to the spring meeting of tire Poverty Bay Turf Club; literally given up, foil everyone appeared to be present.. Tha weather conditions were ideal, and consequently some very pretty froeks ward worn. Among the most noticeable were:; —Mrs J. Afnrphy, striking gown of old rose Roman satin, large black and white hat; Airs Williams, pale green silk; Mrs Mann, sage green Shantung, hat with) black ostrich plumes; Airs Pattulo, paid grey silk; Mrs F. B. Barker, charming costume of pale grey and black, largd white ostrich feather stole; Airs Gully, pretty gown of qtraker grey, touches of pink; Mrs Jex-Blake, flowered white and blue muslin, large Hack hat; Airs Stephenson, white silk, black hat, trimmed! with vieux rose; Airs Nolan, pale grey! silk, flowered toque; Airs Reeve, smart) green tweed tailor-made, toque to match f Mrs O. Sainsbury, striking Hack and white costume, a Turk's head toque*, completing this eostume; Airs Sherratt, grey silk; Mrs Mac Lean, grey, Hud bengaline silk, toque to match;’ Afrs Carmichael, black silk, large black hat; Mrs Cariyon, dainty flowered chiffon of pink and white, over whltd glace, black and white hat; Mrs Burke) white silk, blaek hat; Mrs R. Others present:—Mesdamea Bright, Rees, Martin, Misses Sherrabt, Reynolds, Byrnes, Mac Lean, Bennett, Willis, Powell, Chrisp, Barker, Ferguson, Pyke, etc. Whataupoko Tennis Club. A most successful opening of the above courts took place last Saturday, a large number of players and visitors being present. The courts are in capital condition, and looked particularly fresh •nd pretty, the many pretty frocks all adding to the gaiety of the scene. Five tennis courts and two croquet lawns were in full request all the afternoon. Miss Nolan directed the serving of the tea, which was given by all the lady members. Personal. Mr Chrisp and the Misses Chrisp returned to Gisborne on Wednesday last. Colonel Porter returned.from south on .Wednesday.
