November 4. Vice-regal Dinner Party. On Tuesday evening a small dinner party was given at “Elmwood,” Papanuiroad, by His Excellency the Governor and Lady Islington. Amongst the guests were: The Bishop of Christchurch and Airs Julius, Lady Bowen, Bishop Grimes, Air and Mrs George Rhodes, Air and Mrs J. D. Hall, Air and Airs Teschemaker, Air and Airs J. C. N. Grigg, Aliss Staple-ton-Cotton, t aptain Hamilton, Captain Shannon, and Captain Alaitland, A Dance. Airs Aleredith-Kaye entertained a number of young people on Saturday night at her residence in I’apanui-road at a euchre party, ending with a dance. Afternoon Tea. An afternoon tea was given by Airs Chilton at Hereford-street last week as a farewell to Airs Waymouth, whoj with her family, are leaving Christchurch shortly for a visit to England. Tennis Tea. was given on Saturday afternoon ,at Bealey-avenue by Airs' J. Studholme. The guests included Mrs Moreland, Airs Alaitland Rich, Airs L. C. Knight. Airs T. C. Aloorhouse, Airs Todhunter, Airs C. Reid, Airs Maling, Airs 11. P. Hill, Airs L.. Lane, Airs and Aliss Thomas, the Misses Aloorhouse, Airs and Aliss Bowden, Aliss Cowlishaw, Aliss Prins, Airs and Aliss Wilkin, Mrs A. Reeves, Aliss Corfe, and the Alisses Reeves. At the Theatre Royal. The Nellie Stewart Company’s season opened on Friday night with “When Knighthood was in Flower.” The theatre was decorated with flags in honour of the presence of the Governor, who arrived with Air and Airs Arthur Rhodes and their party, which included Aliss Humphries, Aliss D. Anderson, Captain Hamilton, and Air Tabu Rhodes. Lovely bouquets had been prepared for the ladies of the party, which in each case exactly matched the dress. Others present were: Captain and Airs Harris (China), Dr. and Airs Gibson,-Air and Airs George Harris, Mr and Airs J. Studholme, Airs J. Deans, Aliss Brandon (Wellington), Dr. and Airs Lester, Airs A. Reeves, Airs H. 11. Loughnan, Airs and Aliss Symes, Air and Airs C. F. Thomas, Aliss Chapman, Airs Stead, Airs Russell Grace (Wellington), Air and Airs GeorgeGould, Air and Airs Bethell, and Aliss Boyle.

On the following night Captain and Airs. Seott, Lieutenant and Aire. Evans, and other members of the Antarctic expedition were the guests of honour at the theatre.

A small river picnic was given by Aliss Alenton (Park Terrace) on Alonday afternoon. Amongst those present were the Misses Alolineaux (2), Burns (2), Symes, Thomas, Bowden, and Moore. His Excellency the Governor is giving an official luncheon at “Elmwood” this afternoon. Garden Party. A garden party will be held at “Te Koralia” by Airs. Arthur Rhodes (president of the Christchurch branch of Ithe Victoria ijcague). invitations have been sent to fill the members “To meet Lord and Lady Islington.” It is anticipated that Captain Scott, Airs. Scott, and several members of the Antarctic expedition will also be guests of the league.

Personal. Aliss Fell, who has been visiting her Christchurch friends, lias returned to Nelson. Captain and Airs. Scott, of the Antarctic expedition, who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Kinsey, “Warrimo,” Papanui-road, are now staying with Air. and Airs. Arthur Rhodes, “Te Koraha,” Merivale. Mrs. Wilson, whose husband is a members of the Antarctic expedition, is the guest of Lady Bowen at “AliddletonG range.” Lieutenant and Mrs. Evans are the guests of Air. and Airs. Russell, Papanuiroad. Aliss Paterson (Dunedin) is staying with friends in Christchurch. Aliss Brandon (Wellington) is the guest of All's. J. Deans (Riecarton). Air. and Airs. J. Hall (Christchurch) are visiting the North Island. Visitors to Christchurch include Air. and Airs. T. H. Lowry (Hawke’s Bay), Air. and Mrs. E. A. Blundell (Wellington), Airs, W.
