May 13. Morning Tea. Last Thursday Mrs. Brettargh gave an enjoyable little morning .tea for Mrs. Christopher, of Wellington, who is spending a few weeks in Wanganui. Amongst those present were: Mrs. Arthur Lewis, Mrs. Pattie Izett, Mi's. Cuthbertson (Invercargill), Mrs. Izard, and others. Gaieties Postponed.

There is very little to chronicle in a social way this week, as, owing to the death of King Edward, all gaieties have been postponed until after the funeral. Several bridge parties have been put off, also all golf matches; even the Wednesday and Friday drags to the golf links will cease running for a time.

Farewell Party. On Monday evening Mrs. Peake gave a very small bridge farewell to Miss Reichert, who leaves thio week for Auckland, en route for Germany. Miss Richmond, of Wanganui, also goes with her, and Miss Rene McLean, who left last week for Australia, joins them in Sydney. Miss Reichert was the fortunate winner of the prize. Small bridge parties were also given in her honour by Mrs. D'Arcy and Miss Brewer. Personal. Notwithstanding the short notice, there was a very large number present at the Drill Hall when the proclamation of King George V. was made. Amongst those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Mackay-, Mr. and Mrs. G. Gordon, Mrs. D’Arcy - , Mre. and Miss Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Sarjeant, Colonel Watt, and many more. Mrs. Hole, of Belmont, Wanganui, has returned from her visit to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. Oswald Lewis, of Wanganui, left this week for a holiday in Rotorua. Mr. Lomas, of Wanganui, is staying in Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. John Stevenson, of Wanganui, are at preeent in Wellington. Mr. A. Lewis, of Wanganui is in Wellington for a short visit. The Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Bond, formerly of Wanganui, leave Martinborough shortly for Wellington, where they will reside. Mrs. McLean, of Wanganui, went to Wellington last week. Her daughter, Miss R. McLean, left that port for Sydney, where she is visiting relatives prior to sailing for England. Mrs. and Miss Darley, who have been visiting friends and relations in England, have been staying in Wanganui with Mrs

John Anderson, but have now moved into Mr. Bridgewater’s house. Mrs.,Vennell, of Oamaru, i« staying in Wanganui with Mrs. A. A. Browne. Miss W. Anderson, of Wanganui, is staying in Greymouth with her sister, Mrs. Cotterill.

'Mrs. Hawken, of Wanganui, is staying at Hutt, Wellington with her daughter, Mrs. Coverdale.

Miss Birch, of England, is staying in Wanganui with h'er sister, Mrs. Hugh Speed, Makirikiri. Miss O’Brien, of Wanganui, is staying with relations in Wanganui. Miss R. Hawken, of Wanganui, is spending some weeks with relations in

Wellington.
