PICTON.

April 2. Easter Holidays. The s.s. Maori, with a large number of excursionists, crossed from Wellington to Picton in less than three hours. Soma entrained for Blenheim, and the rest enjoyed wandering about the town and trying to find the way to the bush. The churches had been prettily decorated, and many wandered in to have a look at rural decorations. There were also excursion trains from Blenheim and way-ide stations, and those of the residents who were not out of town went to meet friends by boat or train. Still the town was peculiarly quiet for Easter. Picnics. Picnics brightened up the harbour. Launches and boats conveyed merry parties to the bays, near and far. The Fire Brigade’s picnic to Torea was well patronised. There were picnics all down the Domain b.-aeh and further away still. There was also a private picnic arranged to go to the Bay of Many Coves, but Mr. Bates' warnings took effect. and the party only ventured to Long Beach. Arm ng those present were: Ale-.lames H. C- Seymour. T. J. Smith. Riddell, Le Cocq.’ Welford. Madsen. Lucena, Pilmer. C. Philpotts, and others. Eighteen young men from Wellington hired Sir Charles Stuart Forbes’ launch, the Merlin, and went off for a two-days’ cruise. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves. and returned home much refreshed after their tew days outing. Mrs. and the Misses Allen r2>. Mrs. Le Cocq. and Messrs. L. Allen. Vickers, and Were, had a grand day s fishing on Easter Tuesday round some of the points at Bay of Many Coves. Personal. Mrs. Vickers is spending the Easier holidays in Nelson, part of the time in town with Mrs. Devine, and part with Mrs. A. Chaytor at "The Grange,” Richmond. Mr. and Mrs. H. Howard Blenheim) .-pent Easter with Mr. and Mrs. Dunean, at the Grove. Q.C. Mr. and Mrs. F. Seymour i Wanganui) arrived in Pieton last week to be present at the marriage of Mrs. Seymour s rother, Mr. Stace, to Miss Jane ( haytor of Marshlands). They are staying at Robin Hood Bay with Mr. and Mrs. Mrs. H. Stuart-Forbes (of Fiji) paid a short visit to his brother. Sir Charles Stuart-Forbes, in Picton. last week. Mrs. Pilmer. who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Madsen, left for her home in the North Island on Monday. Mi— Pollock iWanganui) is visiting Dr. and Mrs. Trine, in High street.

Mr. Browne (Chief Inspector of the Manual and Technical branch of the Educational Department) is, with Mrs. Browne, a visitor to Pieton. Mr. L. F. Allen (Wellington) is visiting his people here during the Easter holidays. Mr. and Mrs. D. Gillies (Nelson) spent Easter with Mrs. Speed in Picton.
