NEWS FROM THE WATER (Special to " Graphic.") REGATTA takes place !z next Saturday afternoon. Waiheke Regatta, which is always a popular event for aquatic sportsmen, has been fixed for December 27, and promises to be as successful at it usually is. The weather on Saturday and Sunday was the best that yachtsmen have been blessed with so far this season, there b ing a nice breeze for "the white wings'’ and a fairly moderate sea for the power-boats. There was a great fleet of all sorts and sizes of yachts afloat on Saturday and Sunday. Just about 2 p.m. on Saturday the harbour presented a very pretty scene from west to east with the large number of yachts afloat. At one time in the afternoon there must have been fully 150 sailing and power-boats in the harbour. A New Steam Yacht. The new steam yacht Rehuti, which Was designed and built by Mr. C. Bailey, j'in., to the order of Messrs. Seager Bros., was launched on Saturday morning last in the presence of a large and enthusiastic crowd of visitors. The yacht is certainly the most handsomelooking little craft that has been turned out in Auckland for many years past, and both designer, builder and owners arc to be congratulated upon the result of their efforts. The new yacht, which is 46ft. long, with a beam of 10ft., is very roomy and comfortably fitted with all necessary equipments. After the launching Rehuti was taken over to her moorings ofi Devonport, and was quite an object of interest to those travelling by the ferry and other steamers. It is expected that the yacht will be ready to make her trial trip about the end of this Week. Waitemata Model Yacht Club. The newly-formed Waitemata. Model Yacht Club held their first race for the season off St. Mary’s beach on Saturday afternoon. The breeze was fresh from the north-weut. The course was from St. Mary's Bay to Northcote, finishing between mark boat off Shoal Bay. The race was started at 3 p.m.. During the race the model yacht Minnie, belonging to C. Murphy, whilst having a good lead of the others, was ran into by the yacht" Saide, and had the bowsprit carried away and her bow damaged. Only five of the contesting boats finished. The following were the finishing times': — Alva (A. Hunt), 4h 51m; Aorere (G. Bartley). 4h 531 m; Rio (S. Shanaghan), 4h 54m; f.adye Wituna (L. Braund), 4h 45Jm) ; Clio (11. Ogilvie), sh. The next race takes place on Saturday next, entries closing on Friday, the trophies being given by Messrs. E. C. Potter, W. Bartley, and R- Green. Waitemata. Dinghy Sailing Clnb. The above club held a race again on Saturday afternoon last over the usual course, amt the event was keenly contested throughout, and created a good deal of interest to onlookers •at the Shore. There was a nice easterly breeze blowing all the time. The race was started from off the cable steamer Tris by Mr. W. E. Alexander at 3.20 p.m. Tlie new boat Ikarere proved herself much too good for the others, and won somewhat easily. The following were the entries: —Oliveen, Ikarere, Taumiri, Keepa, Lone Hand, She. The race was started at 3.20 p.m.. and the little boata made good pragressi with the easterly breeze which was blowing. Ikarere soon got away from the others, the finishing being: Ikarere 1, Oliveen 2, Keepa 3. Mannkan Yacht Club. The boats of the Manukau Yacht dub held the second handicap yacht race on Saturday, also a motor boat race. The

finish was: Edith (14m), 1; Manola (8m), 2; Heather (6m), 3. There also started: Anahera (scr), Tiro (14m), Petrel (35m). The motor boat race resulted in H. C. Doman (scr) being first, and Freda (10m), second; Ngaru (22m), third. The other boats in the race were: Emerald (sm), Ruru (15m), Raumate (17m), Grace (20m), Huia (20m), Hildura (38m), Clematis (42m). Devonport Yacht Club. The Devonport Yacht. Club held the second races of the season on Saturday afternoon last, the events comprising a cruising race for sailers to Rocky Bay, Waiheke, and a race for power boats in the harbour. There was keen interest in the sailing event, but only two of the power boats put in an appearance at the starting post. Messrs. W. E. Alexander and Eyre were the officers of the day, and started the races from off the cable steamer Iris, near Calliope Dock, mere was a nice easterly breeze blowing all the time. entries and handicaps were: Class A—Hex (scr), Kotin (IJm), Ngatira (2Jm), Waione (44m), Aorere (51m), Victory (7m). All started. The race was sent away at 2.50 p.m., Waione being the first to cross the line, all the others being in a bunch. The state of the wind was at the start about E.S.E., afterwards changing into the south east, but it was pretty well a “moral" that the limit boats were out of it, and the result proved this, for the placing on corrected times was:— Ngatira 1 Kotiri 2 Victory 3

Class B.—Entries and handicaps: — Ronaki, scr.; Celox. Im.;. Iris,- 11m.: Eulalie, 12 J. in.; Sybil, 121 m.; Daisy, 15 m.; Autere, 20m.: Waterwitch, 20m. On co.rected times Sybil is first, Celox second, and Iris third. Waterwitch’s time was not taken. Motor Race.—The entries and handicaps were: —Shadow, scr.; Alleyne, 4m. 505.; Alice, 6m.; Ilalmax, 13m. 305.; Huia, 17m. The course was 7J knots. Shadow and Ilalmax were the only two boats to turn up at the starting point. Halma was sent away at 3h. 3m. 305., and Shadow at 3h. 17m. On the first round the latter gained a good deal upon her rival, the times passing the flagship being: Ilalmax, 3h. 44m.; Shadow, 3h. 45m. 2s. Soon afterwards the latter took the lead, and the finishing times were:—Shadow, 4h. 14m. 10s. Halmax, 4h. 22m. Ponsonby Cruising Club. The Ponsonby Cruising Club held a cruising race to Mataitai for yachts and launches on Saturday afternoon. The entries and handicaps for the yacht race were:—Alva, scr.; Ranee, 4m.; Mistletoe, 7m.; Foam, 10m.; Echo, 18m.; Waratah, 40m. The finishing times were: —Ranee, sh. 40m.; Alva, sh. 41m. 355.: Echo, sh. 50m. 505.; Mistletoe, sh. 51m. Ils.; Foam, 6h. om. 7s. On corrected times, Echo is first, Ranee second, and Alva third. The entries and handicaps for the motorboat race were:—Kotiro, scr.; Maroro, scr.; Marore, 121 m.; Tamahine, 20m. The finishing times were: — Kotiro, 4h. 33m. 225.; Maroro, 4h. 37m. 565.; Marore, 4h. 48m. 545.; Tamahine, sh. 4m. 30s. On corrected times, Kotiro is first and Marore second. Mr. D. Craig acted as starter, and Mr. W. Wilson as judge and timekeeper.
