CAMBRIDGE.

November 12. The Shakespeare Club. On Monday evening the local Shakespeare Club gave an open night in the Victoria Hall for their closing evening of the present session. The piece chosen was Bernard Shaw's play, •‘‘Captain Brassbound's Conversion.” Summer Sports, On Tuesday, the King’s Birthday, the Bowling and Tennis Clubs opened their lawns, when the weather proved more favourable than for the Croquet Club the week before, and there were very large gatherings. Mr. M. Fisher, the President of the Bowling Club, made a very appropriate speech in declaring the greens open, and Mrs.. Fisher, wife of the President, threw the Jack across the green. The tennis courts were opened by the President (Mr. W. M. C. Walker) with an excellent little speech, and the opening sets were played by Mrs. McOardle and Mr. A. H. Nicoll, and Miss McGovern and Mr. C. P. Stone, and Miss Lundon and Mr. R. J. Roberts, Mrs. H. Nixon and Mr. T. H. Simpson. Amongst so large and scattered a gathering it wag difficult to see many of the dresses, but some of those I noticed were: Mrs. W. R. C. Walker, in a pale grey Eton coat and skirt, and white silk vest and large white hat trimmed with black velvet; Mrs. A. Stone, mauve and white striped gingham and white hat trimmed with black lace rosettes; Mrs. Hammond, cinnamon brown silk voile with Mat of creme lace and brown hat; Mrs. R Fisher, black canvas voile and black and white hat; Mrs. James Taylor, dark grey tweed tailor-made ami black toque, with violets; Mrs. Middleton, navy blue tailor-made coat and skirt, and brown hat; Miss Middleton, mole coloured costume and hat to match; Mrs. George, grey and white striped coat and (skirt and black hat; Mra.
