November 11. Art Exhibition. A very successful exhibition of sketches was held in the Suter Art Gallery by the members of the Bishopdale Sketching Club. Some of the exhibitors were: Miss Nina Jones, Miss Sadd, Mrs. Topliss, Mr. C. Y. Fell and Mr. J. H. Nicholson. Among those present were: The Bishop of Nelson and Mrs. Mules, Miss Mules, Mr. and Mrs. C. Y. Fell, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholson, Mrs. and the’ Misses Cock, Mrs. Maginnity, Miss Gibbs, Mrs. and Miss Ledger, Mr. W. Houlker, Mrs. Tomlinson, Miss Nina Jones, Mrs. and Miss Hunter-Brown, Mrs. W. S. Lucas, Miss Lorrimer, Mrs. Fowler, Miss Blackett, Miss Boor, Miss Kempthorne. Tennis Season.

The opening day of the Brook Lawn Tennis Club was held on Saturday. The six courts were in very good condition, and there w’ere many players and spectators. Mrs. C. A. Green, the wife of the President, gave afternoon tea. She was assisted by Misses Hamilton, Dodson (2), and Hayes. Horticultural Show.

The Nelson Horticultural Society’s Summer Show was held in the Drill Hall, and was an unqualified success. The rose bowl for the championship was won by Mr. F. W. Hamilton, Mr. A. E. Tasker being second. The first prize for decorated table was won by Mrs. W; G. Kerr (yellow columbines), Miss Hamilton’s table (blue sweet peas) being second. Mrs. Harrison’s table (pale pink geraniums) was very highly commended. Some of those present were: Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Richmond, Miss SutherlandSmith, Miss Richmond, Mrs. Bamford, Mrs. Satchel], Mr. and Mrs. McLaren, Mrs. Robison, Mrs. and Miss Booth, Mrs. and Miss Houlker, Mrs. Barr, Mrs. Hoby, Mr. and Mrs. Macquarie, Mrs. Clarke, Miss Roberts, Miss Kirton, Mrs. Broad, Mrs. A. Glasgow, Mrs. Blaekett, Mrs. Airey, Miss Oldham, Mrs. A. Oldham, Mrs. Coote, Mrs. J. Sharp, Mrs. Ledger, Mr. Heaps.

Personal. Mrs. Hodgekins (Wellington) is visiting Nelson. Miss Gibson (Patea) is the guest of Mrs. Webb. Miss N. Fitzgerald (Wellington) is saying here. Mr. and Mrs. A. Blundell and Miss Blundell have left for Dunedin. Miss F. Richmond has gone to Marlborough . Mr. Airey has sailed for the East, via Sydney. Mrs. Marsden (Stoke) has returned from Wellington. Mrs. J. Bell (Hillersden) has gone back to Blenheim.
