October 29. An Enjoyable Dance. On Thursday evening in the Fire Brigade Hall, Miss Brewer and her pupils gave a very successful plain and fancy dress ball. The supper room was upstairs adjoining the ballroom, and the table was very prettily decorated with white lilies and masses of roses and foliage. Miss Brewer wore a handsome black silk gown, with berthe of cream laee, and a spray of crimson berries on her corsage, a cluster of the same in her coiffure; Mrs. A. Cameron, blaek charmeuse gown, with tiny kilted frill at the edge of the skirt, and her decollete arranged with black sequin net; Mrs. Cholmeley, blaek moire silk, with beautiful lace on her corsage; Miss Parson, black silk gown, with net and lace on her corsage, and a spray of pink flowers; Mrs. Stewart, black brocade, with Honiton lace; Mrs. Braik, nattier blue silk gown, with the bodice embroidered in blue silk design, and touch of velvet of a darker shade; Mrs- Tilly wore a very becoming gown of blaek chiffon taffetas, with berthe effect, having cream applique motifs; Miss Cunningham, blaek velvet gown, with eream tucked net, sleeves and tiny vest of same on her corsage; Miss S. Dymock wore a white silk gown, with lace and Empire scarf falling at the side, and in her coiffure she wore white roses; Misa J. Mason, pale blue ehiffon taffetas, Empire gown, with Honiton lace on her corsage; Miss H. Anderson, pale blue chiffon gown over silk, with berthe of same edged with Valenciennes laee and tucker of tulle; Miss M. Anderson, tucked white muslin gown, with lace; Miss M. Amongst the fancy dresses wore were: Miss G. Christie, as a Peasant: Miss — Duigan, Japanese Indy; Miss M. Oholmelcy, Norwegian Peasant: Miss T. Gholmeley, Russian Peasant, in a blue kilted skirt, white embroidered muslin apron and pale blue muslin head dress with flowing ends; Miss B Cholmeley, Dutch Peasant; Miss E. Cameron, Poppy; her sister was a French Fishwife; Miss — Loeke, Highlander- Miss — Duigan. Lady in King George's reign; Miss — Stewart, Fairy Queen: Miss — Nixon, in a pretty pale blue velvet gown and close-fitting lace bonnet. During the evening some very pretty fancy dances were executed by Bome of Miss Brewer's pupils. Personal. Mrs- Hole, of Belmont. Wanganui, left this week for a trip to Rotorua. She expects to be away some weeks. Mrs. Swainson, of Rangrtikei, is the ptx-st of Mrs. Cholmeley, Tayforth, Wanganui. Mrs. Barnieoat. of Wanganui, is staying in the Wellington district with her daughter. Mrs. Erie Riddiford. Miss H. Anderson, of Wanganui, has gone to Pieton. She will be the guest of her aunt, Mrs. J. Tripe. Professor Von Zetlietz, of Wellington, is staying in Wanganui. Mr and Mrs. A. Izard, of Wanganui, have returned from their visit to Hawke’s Bay. Mr. ami Airs. H. W'ilson, of Wanganui, Eave returned from their visit to Rotorua. Aliss G. Anderson, of Wanganui, left this week for a visit to Pieton. Archdeacon Fancourt, of Wellington, who has been staying in Wanganui, has returned to his home. Airs. Scott. of Palmerston North, who has been visiting relations in Wanganui, has returned to her home. HUIA.
