£1,000 to Count Oranges.

Any spiritualist who is able to count the number of oranges that are rolled out of a basket on a table in the office of the Metropolitan Psychical Society, New York, will be given £lOOO by the seep-

ties who make up the membership of the organisation. This is the society’s announcement: ‘Tt has been the experience of those offering rewards that when alleged mediums professing tn communicate with spirits are asked to demonstrate their powers, when opportunities for fraud or for telepathy have been eliminated, they are helpless and cannot do a thing. The person who spills lhe oranges will look the Other way f’»r the moment to eliminate the possibility of telepathy.” iSevenil hundred persons have applied for permission to try to earn the £ 1000, and of all who have endeavoured to count the oranges none have succeeded.
