Dear Bee, September 12, On Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Wells, of "Oakleigh,” entertained a few inends at bridge, when a most enjoyable evening was spent. The wealth of flowers in the room called for general admiration; lovely daffodils were most conspicuous in the decorations, but freesias and anemones were also used. A dainty supper was served during the evening. Mrs. Wells was wearing black silk with white silk vest; Miss Hilda Wells, creme frock with lace bretelles; -Mrs. W. J. Scott, white embroidered silk blouse and black silk skirt; Mrs. (Dr.) Roberts, creme silk gown, trimmed with creme silk maltcse lace; Mrs. Hammond, white silk blouse and black silk skirt; Mrs. Blenkinsop (Otahuhu), black silk voile with satin stripe over black glace, ereme Maltese lace vest; Miss Gwynneth, blaek silk, trimmed with black spotted net and silk applique; Miss Willis, brown velvet with creme lace vest; Miss Kathleen Willis, white spotted net frock. GOLF. Miss Kathleen Willis has again won the Ladies' Golf Championship. Miss Ida London (runner-up; being only 10 strokes behind, which was very creditable for so young a player. The Men’s Championship matches were finished on Saturday last, -Messrs. R. J. Roberts’ and E. J. Wilkinson’s scores being equal for the 36 holes, Mr. A. 11. Nicoll being only two strokes behind. Messrs. Kooerts and Wilkinson have still to play off to decide the championship. A team of Cambridge golfers went to Hamilton on Wednesday, and played the annual interclub fixture. Four out of the five flambridge lady players won their matches, but the men were not so successful, none of the men winning a game; Hamilton thus winning by 7 games to 4. A ret urn match will be played some time next month. Six ladies and nine men from the VVaihi and Paeroa Golf Clubs are to try conclusions with our local players to-day. The Cambridge lady hockey players journeyed to Hamilton on afternoon to play their first inter-club mate., against a team of Hamilton ladies. Hamilton had the best of the game right through until half-time, putting up three goals to their opponents’ nil. In the second sped Cambridge succeeded in getting two goals, and Hamilton two, the game ending in favour of Hamilton by 5 to Cambridge's 2. Yesterday afternoon A SALE OF WORK ANT) FLOWER SHOW in connection with the Presbyterian Church was held in the Alexandra Hall, Cambridge, the Mayor (Mr W. F. Buckland), formally opening' it at 2.30 p.m. with a few appropriate remarks. A lovely bouquet of daffodils and violets, tied with yellow satin ribbon, had been made for presentation to the Mayoress, but on account of sickness she was unable to be present, so it was given to the Mayor to take home for her. There was a lovely display of spring flowers, daffodils predominating, the Mayor carrying off the prize for the champion daffodil bloom. There were only two tables arranged for table decoration, Mrs James Hally gaining first prize, her table being arranged with daffodils and purple anemones and maidenhair fern. Mrs -11. Nixon was second; her table was arranged with white freesias, hyacinths, daffodils, and scarlet anemones and smyIgK. Mrs 11. Nixon gained first prize for the arrangement of a basket. Mr Wells had a table of lovely daffodils for Exhibition only, beautifully arranged by Miss 11. Wells, The judges of the floral

exhibits were Mrs U. Thornton and Mr Cropper. The stalls were in charge of the following ladies:—Fancy work, Mesdames Gow, Jones, T. Richards, and Miss laingniuir; plain work, Mesdames J. Fisher, White, Christie, and W. Thompson; doll stall, Misses Fisher, Gow, and Sharp; 10l lie stall. Misses Howard and Dean; produce stall. Misses Watt and Russell; afternoon tea room. Mesdames Atkinson, 11. Ferguson, and M. Roberts; fish pond and bran tub, young ladies of the Bible classes. The stalls all seemed well laden with the different- goods for sale, and all seemed to be doing a brisk trade. There was great excitement in Cambridge yesterday, as a poll was being taken to borrow £5,000 for the erection of a new town hall, municipal chambers, and library combined, and great satisfaction was expressed when the result of the poll was known, being 150 for the loan. 130 against, and 7 informal. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mrs Blenkinsop has returned to Otahuhu after a three weeks’ visit tf> Cambridge. Mrs W. Bloomfield, of Epsom, is at present visiting Mrs A. J. Edmonds, of Ca inbridge. • Miss Wells has just returned home from Auckland, where she has been staying since fleet week. Mrs W. Carr, of Rotorua, is at present in Cambridge, staying at the Masonic Hotel. Mrs Carpenter, of Auckland, and her little boy are on a visit, to Cambridge, aud .-.re staying at the National Hotel.
