Bear Bee, August 14. We are all anxiously awaiting details of your festivities. The accounts which have reached us so far are disappointingly meagre. Letters from lucky girls in your city give tantalising brief statements, and generally wind up with “Am too busy to write —wait till I come back and tell you all about it.” To get back to our own affairs—which seem very mild in comparison—we have had two or throe teas and a danee, and other minor dissipations. A welcome break in a monotonous week was afforded by ; MRS. PIERARD’S DANCE on Alonday. There were about 180 people present, and the Sydney-street Hall was just comfortably filled. Red was the kev-note of the decorative scheme, ami the supper tables were done with bowls of camelias and vases of anemones, connectedwith wide red satin ribbons. The stage was cosily furnished and decked with flowers and lycopodium. Mrs. Pierard wore a most elaborate gown of lilac chiffon satin, bordered and inlet with gold embroidered filet net, and appliqued with shaded mauve and purple trimming; the deep berthe of lace was trimmed with pale violet. Her daughter was in white silk net, scintillating with silver sequins, and having a becoming touch of pink about it. Mrs. Greville, blaek crepe de chine with panels of black guipure over ivory satin; Mrs. Bendall, white spotted chiffon; Mrs. Kirker, blaek chiffon taffetas embroidered in blaek paillettes; Miss V. Warburton, pale pink mousseline de sole, hemmed with taffetas and finished with lace; Miss Kebbell, white ninon de soie, with a deep floral border, belt of chiffon taffetas in harmonising shade; Miss Newcombe. Empire frock of white ninon d.. soie, banded with silver and finished with silver tassels; Miss Dorset, Rose du Barri chiffon glace, with vest and sleeves of esprit net; Miss Gordon, sky blue crepe de chine and laee; Aliss. Cook, azure blue radium silk, hemmed with deeper blue velvet,, lace berthe with silver paillettes; Miss Cook, Araande chiffon taffetas, with draperies of lace and touches of velvet of a deepr shade; Miss Bentley, blaek velvet amj point lace; Miss Moyes, sky blue crepe lie soie, the vest and sleeves of lace being trellis'ed with blue bebe ribbon; Miss I. Greville, azure blue ninon, lace berthe and deep red roses; Miss V. Greville, rose pink mousseline de soie, with silver embroidery and lace; Miss Solomon, malmaisbn crystalline, hemmed with taffetas; Miss — Solomon, white mousseline de soie, bordered with satin and having a deep berthe of lace; Miss Fleming sky blue measaline, with appliques of laee; (Miss Parker, pink chiffon taffetas, with touches of velvet and a berthe of lace; Miss Churchward, primrose satin, embroidered in gold. Lady Stout gave A VERY PLEASANT LITTLE TEA on Tuesday afternoon nt the Kiosk, about 40 people being present. .The tables were bright with .spripg flowers, ami made one forget the cold southerly winds that told of winter. Ixidy Stout wore mole-eoloured cloth, smartly braided, putty coloured hat with ' velvet bows and tips; Mrs Ostler, black silk with cream laee collar; her daughter, navy blue coat ami skirt, large blaek hat; Mrs Myers, tobae brown eoat ami skirt, hat with roses; Mrs Miles, prune cloth, sealskin coat: Mrs Ewen, blaek cloth tailor-made, blaek and white toque; Mrs Joseph, wood brown Venetian cloth, with shaded brown embroideries; Mrs .1. Joseph, navy blue, sealskin eoat: Mrs McKenzie, soft pink cloth, hat with shaded roses; Mis Ewart, navy blue tailor-made, hat with roses; Miss Richmond, blaek. with caracul coat; Mrs Ward, dark bjue silk, fur eoat, blue toque: Airs Blundell. blue corduroy velvet: Miss Holmes, brown gown and hat: Airs Beauchamp, dark green tailor-made: Mrs Barnett, blaek eoat and skirt, hat with blaek and white ostrich feather. Lady Stout had intended to be in Auckland lor fleet week, but was detained here on business connected with letting her house. She is due bark in Auckland again on Friday. August 14. Still another FAREWELL TEA TO Miss IVY HISLOP was given on Friday, this time the hostess being Miss Cooper. The weather was not favourable for strolling about the picturesque garden, but the view of the bay and city from the drawing-room windows amply made up for it. Rosecoloured shades veiled the lights in the dining-room, and the table was prettily done with freesias and anemones. Miss .May Cooper wore blaek crepe de chine, with a blouse of rose-coloured ehifl'on amt laee; her sister was in eream voile, with a lace yoke and sleeves: Miss Ivy Hislop, brown tweed- t'ailor-made and smart brown hat with wings; Miss L. Hislop, blue cloth, and eldelie hat with feathers; Aliss Ogilvie, yream voile hemmed with glaee; Mrs. Buikiey, black tailor-made, and black toque; Alis,s. Bulkier,, grey frieze Eton eoat ami skirt: Miss HallJones, navy blue tailor-made, ami blue hat with wings; Aliss Henderson, tweed tailor-made, and smart hat; Miss Richardson, grey Eton eoat and skirt, and large black hat: Mrs.,.Wallace, grey frieze, with blaek and white revers, blue taffetas cloche hat with tips: Airs. Gill, blaek chiffon taffetas, ami black hat; Aliss d’Oyley, pastel Eton costume. Aliss Bertha Aides and .Miss F. Denniston (Dunedin) were equally successful in a song-naming competition. AT AIRS. AVEBsTER’S TEA on Friday. They finally drew’ for the prize, the latter being the lucky winner of a charming Peter Pan bag. Daffodils and jonquils, in silver and crystal vases, decorated the tea table, and quantities of flowers were placed about the drawing room. Airs. Webster wore violet face doth, very smartly braided in harmonising tones, and having a guimpe of ecru filet net; Miss Webster wore white voile, with net yoke and sleeves; Airs. Quane (who was staying with Airs. Webster) had a smart frock of amande chiffon taffeta, with a blouse of esprit lace and net; Aliss Allies, green doth, and hat with feather fantaisie; Aliss Denniston, cloth tailor-made, and smart hat with tips; Aliss Ewen, blue frieze, and blaek hat; -Miss Nathan, pink doth, and hat with roses; Miss Simpson, tweed tailormade and black hat. A very delightful affair was the dance got lip on Tuesday by THE KIWI HOCKEY GIRLS. It was capitally managed, and went, as one nuup said, with a “whizz!” from the opening, waltz to the last “extra extra.” The walls of tlie Masonic Hall were decorated with ferns, lycopodium, and greenery, ami crosesd hockey sticks were prominently displayed. Yellow and white flowers were used for the sup-per-tables, streamers of pale bide ribbon combining to make the dub colours. Miss Toms, of Palmerston, was the guest of honour at a KITCHEN TEA given by her sister, Mrs J. H. Williams on Saturday, when a number of clever and useful contrivances were presented to the bride-elect. Mrs H. Hislop cartied off the prize for a tree-guessing competition, Mrs Milligan and Mrs Harton coming second and third. A string band played on the landing, and pianoforte solos and recitations added to the pleasure of the guests. Mrs Williams wore nut-brown souple doth, with a vest and sleeves of ecru filet net, bordered with quillings of silk.
