WAITEKAURI.

[_ Dear Bee, March 7. ■ A grand leap year ball was recently given in Waitekauri by the local girls. The hall was beautifully decorated for the occasion with nikau palms, rimu, red berries and pale pink flowers. The stage was arranged as a drawing-room, with several card tables for those who did not care to dance. A dainty supper was served in the supper-room, and the tables were artistically decorated with pale blue and pale pink. Great credit is due to the committee, who worked very energetically to make it the success it was, both financially and socially. There were a great many visitors from the surrounding tows, and some even ventured from the Thames. Excellent music was supplied by Mr. Christian and party (Waihi), and extras were played by Miss Daisy Evans and Mr. A. Whitaker. The Misses Whitaker and Taylor acted as M.C.’s, and must be congratulated on the efficient way in which they performed their duties which, of course, were quite new to them. The committee were Misses Corbett (2), Whitaker, Murland, Attwood, Chrishie, Tliorburn, Comer, Taylor, Gordon, and Bramble, while Mrs. Whitaker acted as chaperon. Amongst the dresses, some I noticed were: Mrs. Whitaker, liandsome black silk crepe de chine over glace silk, and trimmings of silk ribbon. Mrs. Corbett, black and white; Mrs. Tristram (Elthain), green frock, with white facings; Mrs. Waite, black silk dress; Mrs. Walker, pale grey; Mrs. Hollis, pale green silk blouse, black skirt; Miss Whitaker, pretty pale blue silk muslin inserted with val. lace, pale blue bow in hair; Misses Corbett (2), white frocks; Miss Daisy Evans, (Paeroa), pretty white silk net trimmed with silver passementere; Miss Taylor, white trimmed with pale blue; Miss Murland, pale pink blouse, blaek skirt; Miss Thorburn (Thames), white muslin; Miss Comer (Thames), white silk; Miss Muir ( Thames), pale blue and white cheek dress; Miss Kathleen Corbett looked well in white inserted muslin, white bow in hair; Miss Kerr looked sweet in a cream silk muslin, with floral kimono, and floral ribbon in hair; Miss Johnston (Auckland), blaek and white frock, black velvet trimmings; Miss Gordon, white frock; Miss Attwood, grey dress; Mrs. Newdick, soft white muslin; Miss Pike (Sydney) looked charming in a pretty cream silk dress, with pale blue kimono.
