Dear Bee. July 12. 1 wanted to tell you of the Gisborne Steeplechase meeting held here last week, but the weather and the roads were so miserably wet that not a great number of people went out. The second day the attendance was better, as the weather was tine, but mostly warm cloaks anti coats and skirts were worn, and the grandstand, which usually is parked with brightly dressed ladies, presented a more sombre appearance on this occasion. Last Monday Miss Ilermie AgnewBrowne gave A VERY JOLLY GIRLS’ AFTERNOON. After delicious afternoon tea had been partaken of. we were all handed a slip of paper on which were the names of well-known composers, but disguised in such a way as to make it very hard to guess them. However. Miss Marjorie Campbell-Thompson was successful in guessing the most, and the prize was a dainty trinket box. Mrs. Agnew-Browne wore shepherd’s plaid costume, faced with green velvet: Miss Agnew-Browne, white voile, with lace; Miss H. Agnew-Browne, pale blue silk skirt, white silk blouse; Mis. W. Grey, blue cloth costume, hat en suite: Miss Grey, green and brown mixture long coat and skirt, smart little green chenille hat. with plume and touches of brown: Miss Foster, winecoloured cloth costume, pale pink felt hat: Miss Murray, striped grey and white costume, cream hat. with blue and cream rosettes; Miss L. Coleman, deep red costume, hat to match: Miss Ferguson, navy cloth costume, blue felt hat. with blue plume-: Miss Boylan, grey tweed costume, re 1 hat: Miss E. Grey, navy costume, white and navy hat: Miss M. Campbell-Thompson, dark green dress, green felt ha:: Miss Thompson (Christchurch), coat and skirt of mauve and grey tweed, pretty shaded hat of mauve, and violet plume: Miss D. Bright, dark red costume, red velvet hat. On Wednesday afternoon, at the Alexandra Tea Rooms. Mrs. W. Grey and Miss Grey gave a very jolly afternoon for their friends, and. with tea and talk, the afternoon passed only too quickly. Mr*. W. Grev wore navy cloth costume, hat en suite: Miss Grey, green and brown costume, green chenille hat. with brown wing: Mr*. Palairet. black costume. black hat: Mr*. J.
