NEW PLYMOUTH.

Dear Bee, «• The Taranaki Rilles held their annual BALL last Monday evening in the Drill Hall, and was one of the most successful ever held. The hall was beautifully decorated with bunting and Chinese .anterns, wh -e nikau palms were artistically arranged on the walls. Excellent music was provided by M rs - Av ' nold George’s orchestra, and the ladies who worked so hard to make the ball such a success it was were: Alesdames Doekrill (Mayoress), A. Standish, AleKellar, F. Webster, F. T. Bellringer, F. AV. Okey, R. Jury, Bach, Bacon, W. << Malone, E. N. S. Okey, Clarke, Joseph, Bishop, O’Driscoll, and Ellis, and Alisses Hopkinson, Crear. and Hoskin. The table decorations were under the able management of Airs. O’Driscoll and Aliss Hopkinson. During the evening Air. C. Doekrill (Alavor). on behalf of the Taranaki Rifles, presented Air. F. W. Okey with a richly emblazoned shield, as the latter has recently resigned his position as captain of the corps, after twenty-seven years’ service. Air. Okey feelingly responded. Snowball gave a very ENJOYABLE EIOIRE PARTY last Monday evening, and the prizes were Won by Miss (Jadys Colson. and Mr. Hobday. Siqqx-i was held in the din lug loom. alter which each guest was asked to tear an animat out of a piece of paper. Miss Gladys - Roy becoming ■the winner. Fletcher, organist <.i Mary’s Church, was held in St. Mary’s flail last Wednesday evening, and the many - musicians of the town, including members of other cliurelies. made it the great success it was, by assisting with the musical programme. Mr. Hamilton llod«es. the eminent baritone from .Auckland, who was accidentally delayed on his way through New Plymouth. kindly gave his valuable aid, and had it been’ known sooner that Mr. Hodges would sing a larger hall would certainly have been Heeded.
