WELLINGTON.

Dear Bee, March 9. A (bill week has left me little to white about. A number of people have gone down to Christchurch for the polo tournament, which is an event the greatest interest is taken in. The players of all the North Island teams competing were here for a day or so cn route, and the shipping of the polo ponies-—over sixty in number— was an anxious task. We all hope to see our Wellington team come back with something to their credit, though we scarcely dare to think of the cup. Polo week is always so jolly that we wish Wellington could be lucky enough to have it regularly. Christchurch seems a popular place for championship meetings this year. The golf tournament is also to take place there, and Wellington players are already practising for it. The early cold weather this year has given athletic sports a considerable spurt, and the devotees of hockey are bestirring themselves. It comes as rather a surprise to hear that the Aorangi Hockey Club lias collapsed, as so many of the senior girls are giving up the game for golf. T here was great excitement over THE OPENING ORGAN RECITAL, and the Town Hall was more than crowded on the first night. ••When we get the organ”, has been the topic of conversation ever since the Town Hall was built eighteen months ago. and now we are fully rewarded. It really is a splendid instrument, and we are proud to think it ranks as high as twelfth on the world’s list. The Council is finding some difficulty in providing players to keep up the list of three recitals a week, but we are to have the pleasure of hearing all the noted organists in the colony in turn. In May AL Lcmare is doing us the honour of playing in Wellington, and already anticipation is high. Among the sea of faces at the recitals, it was difficult to pick out. people to name, but the audience included the Mayor ‘of Wellington and Airs Hislop, the latter wearing black taffetas with frills of chiffon; Dr. McArthur and Airs McArthur. the latter in black satin with bodice of mauve brocade; Dr. Kington Fyffe; Mrs Barraud. black silk voile and ecru lace; Mr and Aliss Harcourt; Airs Nathan, black taffetas; the Alisses Nathan, in pretty white silk dresses; Air and Mrs Cachemaille; Mr and Airs Palmer; Mrs and Aliss Martin; Airs Stuart, black eolivnnes; Alisses Stuart, white silk dresses; Air and Airs

Parker;. Mrs and Miss Browne: Miss Fitzgerald: .Mrs M ict tvi.-i . wearing black taffetas; Miss Maeta vish. ivory crepe de chine. One day last week Miss Brenda Hacon was the hostess at A DELIGHTFUL TEA, which she gave at her aunt's house on the Terrace, where she and her mother are staying at present. There was no competition to worry about, so the guests settled into sociable clumps and enjoyed the tea and the variety of novelties in the way of cakes and sandwiches provided. The table was charmingly deeorated with a tall epergne and specimen glasses containing pale pink liles, phlox, and gypsophilia. Miss Hacon wore a gown of pale blue taffetas with a deep inched flounce: Mrs Hacon was in grey figured voile, with tiny black velvet bows; Mrs Will Lawson, pretty dress of white broderie Anglaise, and picture hat; Miss Fitzgerald, pale grey voile and cream hat; Miss Fell, white embroidered muslin over pale blue, blue hat with hydrangeas; Miss Mactavish, cream voile and hat with roses; Miss Quick, ivory lacc over glace; Miss Henry, mauve muslin and pale green hat; Miss Otterson, pale pink voile with yoke of esprit net; Miss Harcourt, deep red canvas with vest of lace and muslin; Miss Nathan, pale bine delaine and black hat.
