AUCKLAND.

Dear Bee, January 23, AT THE THEATRE. Really there was nothing at all exciting to go to last week, no amusement or function of any kind; and if the Brough-Flemming Company had not been here we would have been dull indeed; and now they have gone, and everybody is looking forward to the KnightJeffries’ Company. On Saturday last the Broughs closed their season here with “Sowing the Wind,” which everyone agrees is decidedly the best play in their extensive repertoire. The house was exceedingly well tilled. Amongst those present during the week 1 noticed: Lady Plunket, who wore a dainty white silk evening robe with pink roses nestled in the white tulle berthe, aud pink silk ceinture; the Hou. Kathleen Plunket was in a rich white satin evening frock, and pale blue silk coat; Miss Almond, wearing a white and grey floral brocade, aud grey ostrich feather boa; Mrs Arthur Myers wore a charming white gown with numerous frills edged with black bebe ribbon, and her hair snooded with blue: Mrs Savage looked charming in black net over glace, and a pretty blue scarf; Mrs Hope Lewis was gowned iu black, relieved with blue, and a pale blue opera coat; Mrs Henderson was in a handsome blaek and silver gown; Mrs Buddle, in a black taffeta, softened with chiffon, and a cream lace scarf; Mrs Ernest Moss Davis wore a blaek velvet with a berthe of cream Maltese lace; Mrs Eliot Moss Davis was gowned in pale blue silk, inset with cream lace, and a cream lace tucker; Mrs Sharman was in pink silk with cream lace and insertion, and bands of black velvet ribbon: Mrs Rees wore a prettv pale blue silk with Paris-tinted lace; Mrs Duthic was daintily gowned in white chiffon over glace with numerous tiny frills, and a pretty pale blue opera coat: Mrs Bagnall wore a blaek satin with a cream lace berthe, threaded with black ribbon: Mrs Seymour George was gowned in a blaek taffeta, softened with white, and a black velvet bow in coiffure: Mrs Thorne George looked dainty in a soft white tucked silk,.inset with bands of insertion, and a pnle blue cloth opera eoat: Mrs Munro Clarke was charmingly gowned in white with touches of black, and blaek velvet bow in coiffure; Mrs Browning was in a blaek silk gown, relieved with white; Miss Browning was in a dainty white shirred silk with wide folded satin belt; Mrs Hertz looked charming in a blaek taffeta, relieved with cream, and tiny pink velvet

each. At their third attempt to decide matters Mrs Blundell made four hoops, Mid Mrs Campbell two. The first prize was an oak and silver hatpin box. The booby prize, which was won by Mrs J. M. Johnston, was a silver hatpin. Mrs Mellsop wore a tussore silk blouse and skirt; Mrs W. Blundell (Wanganui), had a becoming black voile; Mrs Millton, black and white spotted muslin, white lace vest and touches of black velvet on bodice, cream hat with wreath of pink roses; Mrs Fitzherbert, brown, brown hat with green tulle and foliage; Mrs C. Waldegrave, blaek silk voile, line cream lace yoke and medallions, black and white hat with blaek and white tips: Mrs Eliot, a very becoming embroidered grey' voile, blaek hat; Mrs Campbell, grey tweed Eton costume, white lace vest, pale green chiffon hat .with white Howers; Mrs F. S. Mcßae, cream embroidered muslin over pale blue satin, cream hat with cream roses; Mrs Porter, brown voile, eream vest, brown hat with pink flowers; Mrs Barnicoat, blaek voile, white yoke veiled in line black laee, black and white chiffon hat; Mrs Johnston, white embroidered linen coat and skirt, white hat; Miss Fookes (New Plymouth), greyvoile. white lace yoke, grey hat with grey silk edged with narrow white laee; Mrs Holmes, Mrs Bendall, Mrs Warburton, and the Misses MeTrennan; Mrs Gibbons, Bank of New Zealand, entertained some friends AT BRIDGE on Thursday evening. Those present included Mr and Mrs C. Barden, Mr and Mrs W. Harden. Mrs Cox, the Misses Bell, Bennett, Warburton; M. Waldegrave, Keeling (2), Messrs. Vaughan, Smith, .Spencer, Keeling, and. Dr. Putnam. Now that the holidays are over THE TENNIS AND CROQUET LAWNS are crowded with members eager to play. We have six lawns, and could easily keep another six in constant use. Waldegrave, black skirt, long cream coat, violet floral toque; Mrs Harden, blue voile, cream laee yoke, blaek hat; Mrs Gould, white linen, pink and cream floral hat; Miss Armstrong, white, wh.Ce muslin hat with black velvet band; Miss* Reed, white muslin, pale blue silk belt, Panama hat; Miss Ruby' Patterson, grey -linen skirt, white blouse, sailor hat; Miss ]•’.
