HAWERA.

Dear Bee. Sept. 21st. Last Friday night Mrs. Day gave A DELIGHTFUL LITTLE DANCE in honour of Miss Alys Riddiford, who has been staying in Hawera. An endless amount, of trouble had been taken to make th.? evening a success, and needless to say it was. everyone enjoying himself immensely. The rooms were very prettily decorated with howls of violets and other spring Howers, which lend themselves so admirably for decorative purposes. A delicious supper was served during the evening. Amongst those present I noticed: Mrs. Day, who was wearing a handsome black toilette; Mrs. Stevens; Airs. Riddiford; Miss Day, looked very well in a gown of black satin. the corsage trimmed with black net; Miss Alys Riddiford. frock of white silk, frilled and inserted with lace; Miss ( ushla Riddiford was also wearing a white silk frock; Miss White, pink voile, relieved with lace; Miss Eva Baird, white silk, profusely tucked; Misses Turnbull, Glenn (Manaial. (butts (2), B. Nolan. Brett. Wrigley. E. Caplen, V. Hunter, Messrs. Greville. Day (Wanganui), Storey, Parrington. Stevens, Baird (2), Glenn, Turnbull. Cowern. the train by members of the t<*am, who took them to the ground, - where die match wasto lie played. This is th? first year tlie Patea girls have played, and, although■ they were not able to beat llawera, they played a very good-game, and should by next year prove a hard team to lieat. The game last Friday ended in llawera winning by four goals to nil. After the match Hie llawera team was entertained at afternoon tea. The llawera team eaught the mail train back to llawera, after a very enjoyable day's outing. The hockey, season is to be closed on Saturday, when a match will be played from picked sides of the club. Mrs. Caplen ami her daughters are very kindly giving afternoon tea. THE DRUIDS’ ANNUAL BALL, hold last night in the Opera House, was most successful. The hall most effectively decorated, and the stage, which was arranged with easy chairs, lounges, etc., was used as a drawing-room. The floor was in splendid order for dancing, and excellent music was supplied. There was a large number present from outside, towns, Eltham and Patea being very w ell represented. Quite a number wore fancy dresses, and they made a most effective appearance amongst the evening dresses. Amongst some of those present in fancy dress were: Miss E. Bernard. “Pleasant Girl”; Miss Hendley, “Red. White, and Blue”; Miss Beechy, “Ivy”; Miss R. Smith. “Peasant Girl”,; Miss; Bremerton. “Folly”; Miss O. Siusted, “llawera Star”; Miss Gomer, “Suzette”; Miss G. Gomer, “Baby”; Miss Hodgeman, “Grecian Lady”; etc. GOLF is still in full swing. There were quite a number of matches and tournaments this last month. Last week a driving competition was held, and proved very interesting. Mr. and Mrs. Foyster gave the prizes, a silver photograph frame for the ladies. , and a silver match-box for the men. Miss Seaton was first amongst the ladies, and richly deserved it. her play being very good. Mr. O’Callaghan was the winner among the men. Last week a team of golfers journeyed to Waverley to play a niateh. and sad to relate wore beaten by live holes. Neverthless, they had a most enjoyable day. and were most- hospitably entertained by the Waverley Club.
